The #maritime industry has long grappled with the challenge of preventing #pollution in the #marine environment, particularly in relation to oil #tankers. The #Torrey_Canyon disaster of 1967, which resulted in a massive #oil spill of 120,000 tons, served as a wake-up call to the #global community regarding the need for robust regulatory measures to avert such incidents and mitigate their environmental impact. In response to growing concerns over the volume of oil being shipped and the increasing size of oil tankers, the International Maritime Organization (#IMO) took decisive action by introducing measures aimed at enhancing maritime #safety and environmental protection. Central to these efforts was the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (#MARPOL) 1973, which represented a landmark development in international maritime #law. The MARPOL Convention, adopted on November 2, 1973, marked a significant milestone in the global regulatory framework governing pollution prevention in the maritime sector. However, the spate of tanker accidents in 1976-1977 underscored the need for further enhancements to the convention. In response, the MARPOL Protocol of 1978 was introduced, incorporating key modifications to address emerging challenges and strengthen existing provisions. The combined instrument, comprising the original convention and the subsequent protocol, entered into force on October 2, 1983, signalling a new era in international efforts to combat #marine pollution. Subsequent amendments and updates to MARPOL, including the addition of Annex VI in 1997, further expanded the scope of the convention and enhanced its efficacy in addressing diverse sources of pollution from ships. Annex VI of MARPOL, which focuses on air pollution from ships, represents a crucial component of the convention's comprehensive framework. By setting stringent standards for emissions from vessels, Annex VI has played a pivotal role in promoting environmental sustainability and reducing the ecological footprint of maritime activities. As of its latest iteration, MARPOL comprises six technical annexes, each containing regulations aimed at preventing and minimizing pollution from ships arising from both accidental incidents and routine operations. These annexes cover a wide range of #environmental concerns, including oil pollution, noxious liquid substances, harmful substances in packaged form, #sewage, #garbage, and air #emissions. The evolution of MARPOL stands as a testament to the maritime industry's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. By establishing a robust regulatory framework and fostering international cooperation, MARPOL has significantly contributed to the prevention of pollution in the marine environment and the promotion of a cleaner, safer future for our #oceans.

🚨 Industry Alert: The Ripple Effects Beyond Texas The situation in Texas is a warning for us all. Despite being on the opposite border in ND, the ripple effects from the administration's actions against natural gas producers are a clear signal: what's happening in Texas could soon be a reality for oil & gas sectors across the country. President Biden's willingness to leverage his power doesn't stop at state lines—it's an industry-wide concern. This isn't just Texas' fight; it's a call to action for every state involved in oil & gas. Now is the time to stay vigilant and united. The future of our sector hinges on our collective response.

WHOA - we knew that Biden had something up his sleeve... but THIS? He's now making the border crisis personal and trying to destroy both their economy AND school kids? REPOST for exposure!! Everyone needs to see what's happening here!! The Biden administration retaliated against the State of Texas by attacking its liquefied natural gas industry, a crippling action that could significantly impacted funding for Texas schools. #thinblueline #lawenforcement

Possibly one of the most misleading headlines of the decade. This vessel is by NO MEANS SAFE! The current situation: a tanker with 900,000 barrels of Basra Heavy Crude is on fire and has been on fire for several weeks. No port will accept it, no government or international organization will take responsibility for it, and no one has provided a clear path to getting the oil off the burning ship. Time is running out, and if this vessel spills, it will be the 5th largest and likely most consequential oil spill in history. After a massive private-led effort, the vessel has been towed out of the immediate vicinity of the Houthis who tried several times to blow it up. Does that sound safe to you? The New York Times and many other outlets are doing the world a huge disservice by implying there is no longer work needed and that the matter is not extremely urgent. If this vessel spills, the environmental, economic and humanitarian fallout will be enormous (thanks in part to the reliance on desalination for drinking water in the Red Sea). Please do not think for a moment that this situation is finished!!

Unwise and foolish… exampled. Instead of making reconciliation such an action is in fact causing more division and chaos. As one judges so too likewise will be judged by the same measure. Even as this applies to people so too does it apply to the nation. This reveals bitterness and pride. Bitterness defiles many and pride comes before the fall. It also reveals a lack of humility and forgiveness. An eagle cannot fly with only one wing. However it will surely be ensnared by one’s adversaries as such. I would not tell you these things if I did not care for both sides. It is the truth in love which sets you free and heals you. Learn the lessons here or accept the consequences of failing to. https://lnkd.in/gAZx9E8Y Leaders and nations who refuse wise and truthful correction by default choose to accept the consequences by their own decisions and actions. As for people so too for the nation. Othniel Max Daves #bidenadministration #congress #natsec #truthbetold #pentagon #DNC #GOP
