Curious about the differences between asphalt and concrete driveways? Here is some valuable information to consider for your next paving project: ✔ Asphalt driveway only needs minor repairs in the short term but will require more maintenance and repair work as it ages. A concrete driveway will need relatively little work right after it's installed but could require extensive repairs in the long term. ✔ Asphalt driveways tend to cost about half the price to install compared to concrete paving. ✔ Concrete is a common choice for decorative driveways. This is because it is strong, durable and low maintenance. ✔ Concrete can face issues with cracking in harsh winter environments, where asphalt tends to adjust to hot and cold temperatures better while it is properly maintained. ✔ Asphalt is the pavement of choice for sustainability. Asphalt is 100 percent reusable and recycled at a higher rate than any other material in America — including soda cans and newspapers. In fact, 94 percent of asphalt reclaimed from old roads and parking lots goes back into new pavements. Looking for a new asphalt driveway? FRIDAY means one thing- It's Concrete Facts from Richard Smith at World of Concrete 😎 Let's talk Concrete vs Asphalt Driveway. ( 😁 You probably know my answer already but let's dig in to it ) Let's take a closer look at each type of material: Asphalt is made from petroleum products, which makes it a natural product that's been used as a paving material for centuries. It's a porous material that can absorb water and has excellent drainage capabilities. Asphalt also has good flexibility and is widely available in different grades and compositions, so it can be adapted to almost any climate or application. Concrete is composed of crushed rock, sand, and gravel bonded together with cement paste. This makes it much harder than asphalt, which is why concrete tends to last longer than asphalt under heavy traffic conditions. Concrete Driveways 1) While concrete driveways are more expensive initially than asphalt ones, they're cheaper in the long run due to their lifespan. 2) Concrete driveways require little upkeep and will last for years. 3) Longer lifespan especially with proper maintenance. 4) Can be customized to match your house and style. 5) Weather resistant. Asphalt Driveways 1) They won't last as long as a concrete driveway even with regular maintenance, which means they'll need replacing sooner 2) Require more frequent sealing and patching Concrete Driveway for the win in my humble opinion 🏆 Post your thoughts in the comments below. Please Note: There are different reasons / situations to go with either type. This info is from my own research and opinion. Always consult with an expert to figure out which is right for you and your situation. Excellent Concrete Works with really good olde School Formwork
Why are sidewalks made with concrete and not asphalt? Concrete is a popular choice for sidewalks because it's more durable and requires less maintenance than asphalt. Concrete sidewalks can last 40–50 years, while asphalt sidewalks typically only last up to 20 years. Concrete is also less sensitive to the elements, making it a good choice for sidewalks that are constantly exposed to rain and shine. #concreteconstruction #concretework #concretelife #construction #constructionlife #constructionworker #workharder #sidewalk #concretepour
