I will be the first to say our bus drivers do a fantastic job. I do not want to create fear but Proactive safety is always better than Reactive safety. Fed Ex trucks and food delivery trucks all utilize a ramp to remove food and products. Let's provide our precious cargo the same. School buses are still having students of all sizes and disabilities jump off the rear edge for emergencies like bus fires. This is unacceptable. I have observed and conducted school bus evacuations for fifteen years. Little children, overweight children and those with disabilities experience anxiety when they walk to the edge of the bus and have to push themselves off a ledge 38-42 inches high. This is inefficient and not safe in real life emergencies. There are 2 bus fires everyday in the USA , and with eV buses the likelihood of yearly bus fires will increase. Fires can start in the bus engine compartment, blown tires, eV lithium batteries, electrical, or accidents.
