Don't have time to read the Department of Home Affairs' 2024 Capability Review? Here's everything you should know about the Department's technology and data review summarised in one spot. 1️⃣ Over 40% of the 480 business systems have already reached end of the life. This poses significant risks of technical failure and increases costs to sustaining the current technology environment. 2️⃣ Resources required to sustain, and fully replace, these systems are not yet funded, reducing operational efficiency and the department's opportunity to benefit from emerging technologies. 3️⃣ Significant challenges in resourcing across the total the Technology and Major Capability Group's ICT landscape (and its 200 active projects). 4️⃣ Lack of an effective data and analytics strategy, demonstrated through the number of separate systems which hold separate forms of data. 5️⃣ Ageing tech increasing risk failure, through cyber security incidents and system outages. But... The review states that "the department is currently not positioned to deliver beyond ‘maintenance’, let alone improve its ability to radically transform its technology and use of data". However, they express their optimism in the creation of the Major Projects and Investments committee, which is set to provide strategic approach to the department's IT landscape, and to support the department reprioritise its technology projects. Hmmm... I will be keeping a close eye on the Department's progress on these recommendations 👀 Share your thoughts below 👇🏽 #Recruitment #FederalGovernment #Commonwealth #Department #Contracting #Technology #ICT #Resourcing
