Money woes, the prospect of social isolation, and safety concerns are haunting older adults, according to a new nationwide poll. Most older adults said they were worried about the cost of medical care, home care, health insurance, and prescription medications. “These poll findings make very clear that the costs of health care and risk of financial scams and fraud weigh heavily on the minds of adults age 50 and older,” according to researchers. One of the best things we do at the California Health Care Foundation is make sure decision-makers have accurate information and facts on health care issues, especially on Medi-Cal, the state’s health insurance program for Californians with low incomes. For example, did you know Medi-Cal covers 39% of all births in California? That's a big deal as state and local health leaders find ways to improve maternal care and ensure children have quality care from their earliest days. Learn more in CHCF's newest Medi-Cal facts and figures almanac about how state leaders can implement strategies to address disparities in access, quality, and outcomes of care for Medi-Cal enrollees of color. #facts #healthcare #MediCal

For people living with life-threatening, chronic, and rare diseases, copay assistance can be a lifeline to accessing critical treatment. However, some health insurance plans have started using “copay accumulators,” programs that prevent copay assistance from counting toward patients’ deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums, making it harder for patients to afford their medication. Last year, a bipartisan bill, the HELP Copays Act, was introduced to prohibit the use of these harmful “copay accumulator adjuster programs.” Urge your senators to cosponsor S.1375 and protect copay assistance: https://lnkd.in/eMwF3q66

Risk factors for heart disease and stroke are prevalent among adults throughout Nebraska, and they are more prevalent among adults who are low income and have no health insurance. Nebraska’s WISEWOMAN (WW) program targets women who are low income and have no health insurance by offering CVD screening and lifestyle interventions to reduce their risk of #heartdisease and #stroke, which could eventually reduce the burden of heart disease and stroke in Nebraska. By examining the health outcomes of these participants, this evaluation is intended to show the extent to which participants benefited from program interventions. https://bit.ly/3Xlkesg Jianping Daniels Melissa Leypoldt Cathy Dillon, M.A. Aaron Sweazy Jill Crane

In the midst of what is anticipated to be the most significant reduction in Medicaid beneficiaries within a year, enrollment in the government-run health insurance initiative is poised to revert to approximately pre-pandemic levels. Medicaid, a program catering to low-income and disabled individuals, along with the associated Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), swelled to a peak of 94 million enrollees due to a regulation preventing states from terminating coverage amid the nation’s public health crisis. However, since last April, states have eliminated over 16 million individuals from these programs in what is termed the “unwinding,” based on estimates by KFF derived from state-level data. #Medicaid #healthcare #lifesciences

Public Health is everywhere, but most important at the Local Level. CDC released a new Vital Signs report that illustrates the role that conditions in counties, such as insurance coverage, broadband internet access and household income, may play in lowering suicide risk. Findings showed that suicide rates are lower in counties with more health insurance, broadband internet access and higher income. New resources from CDC can be implemented by communities as they work together to address public health needs. https://lnkd.in/e_tJWEWM #ReadForHealth #VoteForHealth #APHA #APHA2024 #CDC #CentersForDiseaseControl

Patients seeking mental health care face many barriers including difficulty getting an appointment, finding a provider they can trust, and stigma. And no matter the severity of their disease or type of health insurance coverage, patients avoid seeking mental health care due to its cost. Even among the commercially insured - people with private health insurance - cost is yet another barrier to getting mental health care. Sometimes the perceived cost of care is even more substantial for commercially insured patients than those with coverage through Medicare or Medicaid. Coverage isn't always what it seems. https://lnkd.in/gajGjWyF
