MyHome by Saint-Gobain presents a series that showcases spaces from across the country that illustrate exceptional design in response to their context. Playing an integral part are products and solutions by MyHome by Saint-Gobain. After nearly two decades in the US, Mr. Senthil Thiru and his family decided to return to their hometown in India. To bring his dream home to life, he sought the expertise of Architect Shobana Rajappa from Rajappa Shobana Architects - India. “I envisioned a simple, minimalistic space,” said Mr. Thiru. “My daughter has special needs, which influenced our decision to move back to India. The design needed to be both simple and functional.” Architect Shobana beautifully translated his vision into a spacious, two-story home. “They desired privacy but also an open layout, so we incorporated an inner courtyard and expansive windows. Mr. Thiru requested windows taller than 10 feet. Here, MyHome by Saint-Gobain was our savior, providing not only elegant and efficient products but also exceptional service and installation support,” shared Architect Shobana. Day 4 - Celebrating Design - Archdais Competition Diaries The House of the Winter Artist — Winner of "The House" Competition "The House" competition challenged architects to rethink what 'home' means in our modern world. The winning design by Lingaraj Ragas and Dhyanchand Jani, nestled in the misty hills of Himachal Pradesh, defines it as a place to reflect and grow. This egg-shaped retreat blends beautifully with its natural surroundings. Its unique form and glass lattice invite soft light to flood in, creating a peaceful, inspiring space. This isn’t just a home; it’s the sanctuary of the winter artist. Every winter, the artist retreats here, drawn by the soft light and tranquil surroundings that spark creativity. In this quiet space, far from distractions, nature and design work together to offer inspiration and renewal, allowing the artist to reconnect with their creative spirit. Architecture has an innate quality to influence its inhabitants. Places of residence and study, where people spend most of their time, greatly impact their growth and well-being. Our latest competition, "The Freedom Pocket," explored this idea by inviting designers to envision a comfortable study center for children, for whom even the simplest spaces to learn and grow are often a luxury. Gadi House by PMA Madhushala is rooted in the legacy of 'Wada’s, the design harmonizes ancient wisdom with contemporary needs. Inspired by the fortified 'Gadi', the structure embodies strength and security while embracing the nuances of modern life. The design narrative weaves together echoes of the past and demands of the present, redefining traditional elements for today's living. Drawing inspiration from the 'Khand' module, the layout embraces functionality and flexibility, evolving into a dynamic cruciform structure that seamlessly transitions between levels. The enveloping walls, reminiscent of a fortress, integrate stone and brick with modern construction techniques, creating a timeless architectural statement. Passive cooling systems, solar energy, and water conservation measures underscore the commitment to a sustainable, self-sufficient lifestyle. The home emerges as a symphony of tradition and innovation, a sanctuary where heritage meets modernity. From everyday rituals to celebratory gatherings, it embodies the essence of harmonious living, rooted in the past yet embracing the future. In this process, where architecture is serving the present needs while imbibing traditional understandings, the building emerges as a timeless entity. Shaping Public Spaces: The Power of Biophilic Design Architecture is constantly evolving, and a growing trend is the incorporation of biophilic design principles. This approach focuses on reconnecting people with nature within the built environment, fostering well-being and a sense of community. Biophilic design can be implemented in various ways, from incorporating natural materials like wood and stone to maximising natural light and ventilation. Carefully designed outdoor spaces, courtyards, and rooftop gardens are also powerful tools. As an architect, I'm particularly interested in the impact of biophilic design on public spaces. Well-designed parks, plazas, and urban green areas can encourage social interaction, reduce stress, and even improve air quality. Reviving historical urban spaces like Delhi's Shahjahanabad with biophilic principles can not only enhance aesthetics but also revitalise the cultural and social fabric of the city. Biophilic design is a powerful tool for architects to create healthier, more sustainable, and ultimately, more human-centric spaces. #architectes #founders #interior #designspace

𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 At Samashtti Designs, we believe architecture is more than just buildings—it’s an art form, a canvas to weave stories, cultures, and experiences. Our recent work is deeply inspired by Kerala’s rich weaving traditions, where artisans bring life to every thread on the loom, crafting vibrant textiles with skill, patience, and reverence for nature. Just as the weaver creates beauty from local materials, our architectural philosophy also draws from the essence of local craftsmanship and sustainable practices. Each project we design seeks to integrate art, nature, and tradition, creating spaces that are not only beautiful but deeply rooted in local culture. By blending Kerala’s timeless artistry with sustainable, experiential architecture, we aim to create spaces that inspire connection—with both the environment and the heritage around us. At Samashtti, we’re not just designing buildings; we’re crafting experiences that honor the past while embracing the future. #𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘁𝘁𝗶 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 #𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 #𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 #𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗮 #𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 #𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 #𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 #𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 #𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

Architect and Designer II NIT Nagpur - GOLD Medalist II Infrastructure Design II B.I.M. II Sustainability II Futuristic Architecture II
In India, function follows form, and often, form follows the budget in architecture. There’s a tendency to prioritize grand facades over functional spaces, with many homeowners focusing on lavish exteriors, even if the interiors are cramped and impractical. This emphasis on appearance, especially on tight budgets, leads to compromises in quality and usability But it’s not just aesthetics where we fall short. We’ve forgotten our roots—the use of local materials and climate-responsive designs. Traditional Indian architecture was inherently sustainable, leveraging local materials like stone, clay, and wood, suited to specific regions and climates. Today, we often overlook these in favor of modern, glass-heavy facades that are unsuitable for our climate, increasing energy consumption and reducing efficiency. Ignoring climate considerations in design not only makes our buildings less comfortable but also leads to unsustainable practices. For instance, glass facades in hot climates trap heat, requiring more air conditioning, while traditional methods like jaalis (perforated screens) and courtyards naturally cooled interiors. By failing to integrate such climate-sensitive designs, we contribute to environmental damage. It’s time we rethink this approach and strike a balance between modern aesthetics, local craftsmanship, sustainability, and designs that respond to local climate conditions. Architecture should evolve, but without losing sight of functionality, heritage.and the environment. What’s your take on this? Let’s discuss! #ArchitectureDebate #DesignVsFunction #IndianArchitecture #Craftsmanship #LocalMaterials #ClimateResponsiveDesign #SustainableArchitecture #FacadeVsFunction #CulturalHeritage
