The best way to have no problems in life is to have no life at all. The 2nd best way is to actively learn how to live life. Unfortunately, there are no classrooms for teaching this, and so most people just go through life and react to it, whenever life hits them. The right way is to live life needs to be actively learnt, just like learning a subject in school. I am continuing my journey started in #NationalStoryTellingWeek last week and have reached Chapter 5 in my business story - How have I made a difference? The difference involves children being OK with making themselves vulnerable enough to learn. Learning can be hard; it requires you to put yourself in places that are uncomfortable. The culture I aim to build around children on that learning journey is one of psychological safety. If you feel psychologically safe, you are more likely to put yourself in the vulnerable places you need to in order to learn. The elements that cause learning to be a struggle are brought into the spotlight. The idea is that children start to recognise these elements as a necessary part of learning that we need to embrace together rather than ones of which to be fearful. It's the 'together' bit that is really important because it's THAT which really drives the culture and makes the struggle less scary. I aim to make the scary in learning less scary. That is it in a nutshell. That is how I make the difference. That is the idea behind the picture books too - I have developed delightful little characters who embody the essence of learning and shine a light over the bits we all find tricky when learning new things.
