With school reopening around the corner, here are a few things that will add the extra edge to the academic year. 1. Welcome back the students- ice-breakers, team building exercises and games not only add the element of fun but set the tone for the year. 2. Set high expectations collaboratively. Students behave the way you expect them to behave! 3. Spend time establishing procedures and routines. It may seem time consuming, but will stand you in good stead. 4. Last but not the least get to know your learners. Talk to them, have circle times, discuss what true learning entails, give an overview of the year and the part they play.. Dear education leaders and professionals, this is a good time to remind ourselves of the difference between "Schooling" and "Learning" I think that we should be more interested in what happens from Monday to Sunday!!! I mean if these students really "know how to learn" and "love to learn"...Homework aside... That thing called "Homework" is not a good measure of lifelong learning as a skill and competency needed to thrive in a complex world... Whatever they are doing outside school shouldn't be something they can check up online and get solutions easily, making it void of creative, analytical and critical thinking. We know that it takes a village to guide, support and transition our young people safely into adulthood. We also know that our young people don't become adults in a weekend or a camp - not even on one of ours! It takes time, experience and challenge, mistakes and success, lots of reflection. It requires great adults to get around our young people, modelling adult behavior, showing trust and belief in the greatness of them all, allowing room for mistakes and growth, handing over responsibility at the right time, being there to catch and hold, knowing when to guide and push, letting go of our own expectations and doing our own work so we don't pass on our wounds. This is a journey, a dance, an art and a science. Our program is not just a teaching program for students, it is a learning and exploration pathway for teachers, parents and students to share.
