My thoughts from Stage 6 of the Tour de France Femmes: 1. Vollering looked good marking the attacks of her rivals which to me means it’s game on for the rest of the Tour. You could see in the final sprint she was under pressure, which is normal after a big crash, but impressive she did not lose time. 2. Kerbaol shows incredible tactical savvy and descending skills riding away from the favorites and TTing to a stage win. Love seeing more GC rivals come to the fore and risk it to gain time and chase stages. 3. Canyon Sram looking a bit under pressure in the final requiring help from FDJ in the final. Most teams only had two riders in the front so not really the case for alarm bells, but strategically you can see Kasia will have to cover the attacks herself of the top riders when the group gets reduced in the mountains. 4. Faulkner made the lead group on an explosive stage which again confirms she is a favorite in the GC fight. Tomorrow’s stage should suit her style so it will be interesting to see her tactics. I can’t help but see a huge opportunity for her to attack when both Kasia and Demi are isolated from teammates and are marking one another other. While it’s easy to see she’s a threat, it becomes more complicated if Demi puts it all on Kasia to chase the threats down (a good strategy).

Let’s not forget that female athletes have always been an *add-on* in the Olympics 🤨 They were banned from the first 1896 games and finally allowed to compete at the 1900 Games in Paris. From a total of 997 athletes, 22 women competed in the five ‘appropriate’ sports for their sex: tennis, sailing, croquet, equestrianism and golf. The fact that an athlete nursery is only just being introduced to the Olympics in 2024 astounds me 😳 This is how deep the patriarchy goes! At Paris 2024 we’re now seeing equal numbers of male-female athletes too. Olympic history is therefore being made by achieving full gender parity on the field of play - it’s only taken 128 years 🫠 ⁉️ What’s next for female athletes in the Olympics do you think? Let’s hope it won’t be another century or more until the IOC starts paying attention and permits much needed infrastructural change 🙏 #Olympics #gender #patriarchy #sport International Olympic Committee – IOC Olympics Paris 2024 Niall Seewang
Allyson Felix holds a record 20 World Championship medals and 11 Olympic medals, including seven golds. She is acutely aware of what it takes to be an elite athlete, and an elite athlete mom. She is teaming up with Pampers to create the first-ever Pampers Nursery in the Athletes Village at the Paris Olympics. The nursery will offer a space for moms to bond with, nurse and play with their babies, helping to alleviate some of the pressures of competition. “I just knew how difficult it was to compete at the top level after I had my daughter, and some practical things were really hard. And so when I joined the Athletes Commission of the IOC, I really wanted to be that voice for athlete moms, and just take away one less thing for them to worry about in the pressure of competition,” said Felix. Bravo 👏

Inspiration is everywhere! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 We've all heard those stories of Olympic athletes overcoming incredible odds. They train for years, face setbacks, and push their limits to reach the podium. It's inspiring, but let's be real - not everyone's destined for the Olympics. And that's okay. Just like in sports, life has different arenas. Some shine in the spotlight, while others find their strength behind the scenes. Maybe you're not comfortable leading the cheer squad, but you're a whiz at creating awesome social media campaigns. Or perhaps you're not the fastest runner, but you've got a knack for coding that could revolutionize an app. The digital world is your Olympic stadium. You can connect with people across the globe, learn new skills, and even build a business from your bedroom. It's a place where your passion and creativity can truly shine. 🥇 So, what's your gold medal moment? It might be mastering a new coding language, creating a viral video, or launching a successful online store. It could be using your platform to advocate for a cause you believe in or simply making someone's day brighter with your words. Remember, every champion started somewhere. They had dreams, they worked hard, and they never gave up. You have that same potential within you. So, whether you're scoring goals on the field or building a website, embrace your unique talents. Find your arena, push your boundaries, and go for gold! #olympics #wisdom #motivation

WAY TO GO Allyson Felix! A partial quote from her statement resonated with me deeply: "...some practical things were really hard." 🙃 I think sometimes the nuance of this is lost on leadership when parents return from parental leave. The things that seemed so easy and simple before take so much more effort (getting to work on time for example!). Things that caused no pain before are harder on a person's body after, what is typically a shorter leave than necessary, to fully recover from this major life-giving event. I love that organizations are taking things a step further with their accommodations for new parents upon their return. Hope to see more of this across industries! #WorkingParents #ParentalLeave #StrivingforBetter

What if your city’s biggest sporting event lasted just 90 seconds? ⏱️ That’s the Palio di Siena for you—a thrilling horse race packed with adrenaline, where history, rivalry, and celebration come together in the heart of Italy. Wait, a medieval horse race? Tell me more 🏰 Yep, this isn’t just any race. The Palio has been part of Siena’s story since the 1600s. It takes place in Piazza del Campo, a stunning medieval square that transforms into a racetrack filled with passionate fans. When does it happen? 📅 The Palio takes place twice a year: July 2 and August 16. These dates honor important local religious celebrations, with each race connected to a different feast. Seventeen teams? How does that work? 🌟 Siena is divided into 17 contrade (districts), and each one competes in the Palio. The rivalries run deep—this is about way more than a trophy. It’s pride, legacy, and centuries of tradition. Luck, Strategy, and Pure Drama 🎲 While the contrade pick their jockeys, the horses are assigned randomly just a few days before the race. That’s where luck meets strategy. Add in four days of trial runs, and you’ve got the perfect mix of suspense and drama. Is it just a race, though? 🏁 Not even close. For the people of Siena, the Palio is life. You’re born into a contrada, and its victories and traditions become part of who you are. And what do winners take home? 🎨 Forget cash or a regular trophy. The winner gets the Drappellone—a hand-painted banner created by a new artist every year. It’s as much about the art as it is about the victory. Stay Tuned 🔗 Next up, you will explore a world where athletes climb frozen walls and do things that seem impossible 🧗♂️❄️ #PalioDiSiena #HorseRacing #MedievalTraditions #Siena #ItalianCulture #SportsHistory #Rivalry #SportsTradition #CulturalHeritage #AdrenalineRush #UniqueSports #GlobalSports #EventHistory #ItalianFestivals #SportsFans #SportingEvents #TraditionalSports #PassionForSports #ExploreSports #SportsCulture

An unmentioned yet significant revenue stream for past and current Olympians is professional speaking. Over 20 years of running a speakers bureau, I've seen countless speakers parlaying that experience into enduring second careers. They can tap into themes like resilience, success mindset, uncertainty, team building, diversity and general motivation. An Olympian can earn from $10,000 to six figures per speech depending on their name recognition, social media following, sport, agent's marketing investment and other factors. They might be booked dozens of times a year. A few concerns when booking them: - monitoring off the field behavior, associations, social media comments - how good are their speaking skills - are they available to mingle, take photos, sign books, sports memorabilia or other value-added services - how relevant can they make their experience to business and other organizational audiences - how well they can customize - many ex-athletes give the same talk for many years and that's a risk for those who organize events. This is simple marketing using incentives. Countries incentivize athletes to perform well and win medals while competing at the Olympics. In exchange, assuming an athlete medals, they’ll be rewarded. Rewards are different depending on the country. Yes, some rewards seem funny. But people in other countries are in need of different things. #Olympics #Competition #Risk #Reward
