Happy Earth Day! Looking out the refreshing view of Solar panels in Green School Bali. Solar panel convert sunlight into electricity and offer advantages including utilize a renewable energy source, reduce carbon emissions, provide energy independence, have low operating costs, and have a long lifespan. However, they also have disadvantage, including high initial costs, weather dependence, space requirements, the need for energy storage, and considerations regarding manufacturing and disposal. Nowadays, solar panels remain a valuable and popular solution for sustainable energy generation. In the society, there are a few misconceptions that people have about solar panels that are not actually true. Few common beliefs is that: 1. Solar panels only work on sunny days. While it's true that solar panels perform best in direct sunlight, they can still generate electricity on cloudy or overcast days. They are designed to absorb diffused sunlight, allowing them to produce electricity even when the sun's rays are not directly hitting the panels. 2. Solar panels require constant maintenance. In reality, solar panels are generally low maintenance. They have no moving parts, and their solid-state construction makes them durable. While occasional cleaning may be recommended to remove dirt or debris, regular maintenance is minimal. 3. Solar panels are inefficient and take a long time to pay off. In fact, advancements in technology have greatly improved the efficiency of solar panels, and the payback period can vary depending on factors such as installation costs and energy usage. Riopele, in partnership with EDP Portugal, inaugurated a new photovoltaic park, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability and energy transition. Considered one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic parks installed in Portugal, Riopele will be the first EDP customer to install photovoltaic panels on the building's facade, strengthening its focus on innovation, with an additional investment in the construction of a covered car park with panels. ☀️ EPV Aurinkovoima Oy is building one of the largest solar parks in Finland in a former peat production area in Heinineva, Lapua. Sweco's designers play a key role in the project. ☀️ The design emphasises sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The solar park will produce approximately 100 megawatts of peak power, which corresponds to the electricity needs of thousands of single-family houses or tens of thousands of electric cars per year. Locating a solar park in a peat bog is also an environmentally friendly solution, as it does not require felling forests or building new service roads. The first solar panels may be connected to the grid as early as the end of 2024, and the entire project will be completed a year later. In total, 362 solar panels were installed with a peak installed power of 165 KW, which is expected to produce a minimum of 251,000 KWH of electricity annually. In 12 months, this installation has had a positive impact on the environment: A standard carbon saving of 85.56 tonnes has been achieved. The emission of 103.2 tons of CO₂ has been avoided. The equivalent of 174 trees have been planted. In addition, since its launch, an energy saving of 246 MWh has been achieved. This project has been carried out within the framework of the company's Sustainability Plan, which seeks to invest in various sustainability and social responsibility projects. #sustainability #ecofriendly #coffee #Hotels
