Delivery Capabilities in large IT Organizations – Ensuring Quality using PQT Framework CSI or the Customer Satisfaction Index reflects directly how happy they are with the tech partners and quality offerings has a heavy weightage to it. When the delivery is done at the right price and at the right time without quality, it adds no value to the customers. They may have to spend a lot of money yet again to rectify all the issues and it may affect the time to market the product. Quality is not an aftermath thought process. It should be taken care and embedded right from the planning and design stage. Who supports the best to ensure quality in the lifecycle? Business Analyst – The quality in which the requirements are captured and documented, matters a lot. It is imperative to identify the dependencies during this analysis stage. This may include any complex integrations required. Solution Design – Gone were the days where the developers have to focus only on building the code base. It is imperative for them to understand the business. Business actions and flows have to be thought through in this phase very clearly. I personally spend a lot of time with the solution architects. Development – Developers today have to understand the business triggers and have the end user in mind to create quality codebase. We are moving towards a world where the technology team has to understand the business without which, a lot of things will get missed out. I know that a lot of developers are spending time to understand the business so that when they push the code, it flows through seamlessly. Quality Analyst – BAs and QAs have to work hand in hand. This is the last gate check and am of the opinion that all the issues to be identified here and raised internally. If a bug enters the UAT phase, then the QA team is at the front row to face the questions in explaining how it went undetected. Program Manager: Needs to set up the right KPIs for every division in the team and helping them to perform at their best. A team without a proper lead will work as silos and quality goes for a toss when there is no accountable person taking up the responsibility. End of the day, it is a team game and the PM holds the fort by having the hands dirty with the team. The job does not end after the daily stand up call. PM is like the CEO of the project ensuring successful delivery. Will talk about a phase where major quality issues will pop up in the next post.
