17.12.2024 Today, in front of a place that has preserved centuries of human history, we stand to bring forward the undeniable truth of Western Azerbaijan. For generations, our people have carried the memory of their ancestral lands—lands that embody our identity, culture, and perseverance. Western Azerbaijan is not simply geography; it is the soul of a people whose voices remain steadfast, echoing across time and borders. Justice may be delayed, but it cannot be denied. Our call today is clear: the return to Western Azerbaijan is the restoration of truth and fairness for all of humanity. This struggle is not bound to history but continues into the future. It is a call to recognize, to remember, and to act. We will raise our voices. We will reclaim our narrative. And we will ensure that the world hears the call for justice that begins here and now. #WesternAzerbaijan #VoiceOfJustice #TruthAndHistory #StandForJustice #StruggleAndUnity

Things Aren’t Great: "Unpacking the Lies of the Western Azerbaijan Community,” 9/22/2024, https://lnkd.in/dJ2zvqyd "In this video, we tackle the absurd claims surrounding "Western Azerbaijan," a fabricated narrative that asserts all of Armenia is historically Azerbaijani land. "Azerbaijan is pushing this dangerous propaganda to erase Armenian identity and rewrite history. We’ll explore how the so-called Western Azerbaijan Community operates as a front for the Azerbaijani government, promoting these unfounded claims. "Join us as we examine the implications of this narrative and why it matters for Armenia's future. This isn’t just about territory; it’s about cultural survival.” “Azerbaijan wants Armenia, and Armenians, to cease existing as a sovereign entity. From the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh to increasingly bold claims on Armenian territory, the pattern is unmistakable. This isn't just about land or resources. It's about erasing a people, their culture, and their history. And that's why we need to take their seemingly ridiculous propaganda seriously.”

The liberation of Azerbaijan’s lands highlights both our resilience and the injustices of history. İrəvan, once a thriving Azerbaijani hub, was stripped of its heritage through forced displacements and ethnic cleansing. İrəvan, a historical Azerbaijani city, served as the administrative center of the Erivan Khanate, a significant part of Azerbaijan’s history and culture. For centuries, Azerbaijani people faced systematic policies of ethnic cleansing and persecution. Entire communities were uprooted during the 19th and 20th centuries, leaving behind their homes, culture, and history. This tragic legacy is a reminder of the strength of our people and the importance of safeguarding our historical narrative. The Western Azerbaijan Community is committed to advocating for the peaceful, safe, and dignified return of Azerbaijanis to their ancestral lands. This return is not just about land—it’s about reclaiming our culture, history, dignity and rights. #Azerbaijan #GreatReturn #Justice #İrəvan #HumanRights

Parallels with Palestinian Displacement Contemporary Land Claims: The historical context provided by the Doctrine of Discovery can be seen in modern land claims in Israel/Palestine, where similar justifications have been used for territorial expansion. The notion that land can be deemed "vacant" or "unused" if not occupied by a recognized state or civilization echoes the principles established during colonization6. This has led to significant displacement of Palestinian people from their ancestral lands.

The Ukrainian South includes the regions of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa and the Crimean Peninsula. It stretches from modern Mariupol to modern Budzhak in the Danube region, says Serhii Bilivnenko, a historian and lecturer at Zaporizhzhia National University. There is a misconception that there was a 'wasteland' in the south before the arrival of the Russian Empire. This is not true. Read about the first settlements in the South of Ukraine, the Crimean Khanate in these territories, and the destruction of identity by the Russian Empire in this article.

Adoption of the Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan The State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan was adopted on November 18, 1991, a few months after the country gained independence. This historic day marked the beginning of a new chapter in Uzbekistan’s history, symbolizing sovereignty, unity, and the aspiration for peaceful development. The flag is a rectangular banner with horizontal stripes of blue, white, and green, separated by thin red lines. In the upper left corner of the blue stripe, a crescent moon and twelve white stars are depicted. Blue represents the clear sky and water, vital sources of life. - White symbolizes peace, purity of intentions, and the pursuit of justice. Green reflects the fertility of the land, nature, and its wealth. Red lines signify vitality and the connection between traditions and modernity. The crescent moon is a symbol of renewal, while the twelve stars represent harmony and perfection. The adoption of the state flag was a significant step in shaping the new identity of the country, combining its centuries-old history with contemporary aspirations. Today, the flag of Uzbekistan stands as a symbol of national pride and independence, reminding citizens of their glorious past and the bright future of their homeland.

During this weekend, both Canada and Azerbaijan observe days that force us to pause, reflect, and remember the weight of history. Though rooted in different struggles, Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) and Azerbaijan’s National Remembrance Day (September 27) share a common purpose: they remind us of the pain inflicted by past injustices, and they underscore the importance of moving forward with understanding and healing, ensuring that the mistakes of the past are not repeated. Both of these days teach us that we must confront the difficult truths of the past if we hope to create a better future. On these days, we are asked not just to look back, but to understand the ongoing impact of these events and to strive toward healing, justice, and peace. As individuals and as societies, we must remember the past, honor those affected, and take active steps to prevent the reoccurrence of such tragedies. Only by understanding and learning from these painful histories can we hope to build a more compassionate and harmonious future. #SamirOnLinkedIn #Rememberance #Reconciliation #Canada #Azerbaijan #HistoryLessons #BrightFuture

🛑 Former Israeli Ambassador’s Criticizism of Natanyahu. 🛑 Threat of de facto annexation of East Jerusalem. 🛑 Changing demography of E. Jerusalem in favor of settlers. 🛑 What Next? Annexation of ‘OPT’ and Settlers Expansion. - The former Israeli Ambassador to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, Ilan Baruch who addressed the UN Forum on the Question of Palestine, "The threat of de facto annexation – What next for Palestine?", held on 4 April 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York. - Ilan Baruch advocated for the peace process between Israel and Palestine. As chairperson of the Policy Working Group, an Israeli advocacy team focusing on policy issues pertaining to the achievement of peace based on the two-state paradigm, Baruch emphasized the deteriorating situation in Jerusalem. - Ilan Baruch highlighted, "Israel's strategy to consolidate its annexation of Jerusalem," and stressed that Israel "changes the demography of East Jerusalem at the expense of the Palestinians and in favor of Jewish settlers. - Ilan Baruch also articulated a deep concern for the unilateral actions by the Israeli government that undermine the peace process. He stated that “the Green Line, the June '67 border which is supposed to be the basis for a negotiated agreement...is systematically eroded. - Ilan Baruch called for international and local re-engagement in the peace efforts, stressing the urgency of addressing the Israeli policies that threaten the feasibility of a two-state solution. He remarked on the importance of not just political, but also social and cultural strategies to ensure a peaceful resolution. In Sumnary: the former Israeli Ambassador to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, Ilan Baruch has explained Israeli long-term and large-scale intentions of annexation of the whole ‘OPT’ including East Jerusalem which is now unfolding both in the West Bank and Gaza. This has been repeatedly declared by the far right extremist government of Natanyahu.
"Jerusalem is the core of the occupation & its transformation into solid annexation" Amb Ilan Baruch

My assertion that the establishment of Israel involved the occupation of land that never belonged to Jews and that this is a distortion of truth is supported by historical evidence of the displacement of Palestinians. The ethical implications of using historical suffering to justify contemporary actions must be critically examined, as it risks perpetuating cycles of injustice and conflict. The struggle for Palestinian self-determination is rooted in their desire to reclaim their land and address the injustices they have faced. Recognizing the rights and histories of both Israelis and Palestinians is essential for fostering understanding and working towards a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In summary, the claim that the establishment of Israel is a legitimate expression of self-determination is challenged by the historical realities of dispossession and occupation, raising significant moral and ethical questions about the nature of justice and reconciliation in the region.
