One of the most common occurrences is unsolicited pitches for services like copywriting, lead generation, and website design. While it's great to see people offering their skills, I've found that Instagram isn't always the best platform for pitching. If you're targeting a brand, researching their contact information and sending a tailored email is often more effective. Another frequent occurrence is job seekers reaching out. While I appreciate their enthusiasm, it's important to do your research. Check the company's LinkedIn or website to see if they're actively hiring. If not, you might consider reaching out directly to the relevant department. Remember, the person responding to your DMs, especially for larger brands, is often not the final decision-maker. Had an incredible experience at the Shankar Ehsaan Loy concert last weekend! Beyond the amazing music, what truly struck me was their masterful use of storytelling. Instagram Reels Vs. TikTok My friend and fellow marketer, Varun and I were having a head-scratcher moment recently. We noticed a stark difference in how Reels and TikTok videos perform depending on location and account type. Here in Canada, even large accounts with 480k followers struggle to break past 10k views on Reels. Most land in the 4-7k range, which feels underwhelming compared to... India, on the other hand, seems to be a Reels paradise! The algorithm appears to push content to a wider audience, with even smaller accounts experiencing significant reach. But Wait, There's More! This pattern flips when it comes to TikTok. Our personal profiles see a much better performance there compared to Instagram. However, for the business accounts we manage, things swing back in favour of Instagram. So, what's going on here? Here are some potential explanations we found: 🔹 Algorithm Focus: Maybe Instagram tailors its Reels algorithm based on user demographics and content preferences. Canada might have a higher focus on photos and Stories, while India embraces Reels more readily. 🔹 Content Saturation: Is the Canadian Reels market simply more saturated with content creators? This could make it harder for individual accounts to stand out. 🔹 Business vs. Personal: Perhaps Instagram prioritizes Reels from business profiles. Stories light up our brains and create lasting connections with brands. So, what makes a great story? Here are some key elements Sophie shared: 🔹 Identifiable Characters: Give your audience someone (or a group) they can relate to and root for. 🔹Authentic Emotions: Don't be afraid to evoke real feelings! Joy, sadness, frustration - these emotions connect us. 🔹A Specific Moment: Ground your story in a particular time and place to make it feel real. 🔹Sensory Details: Help your audience visualize the story with vivid details that engage all the senses. Sophie also introduced a powerful 7-step framework for crafting compelling stories: 1️⃣ Who: Who is your audience? Who's the main character? 2️⃣ What: What problem are they facing? 3️⃣ How: How does your brand help solve that problem? Position yourself as the guide, and your product as the solution. 4️⃣ Why: Why should your audience care about this problem? What are the consequences of not solving it? 5️⃣ Why: Why should you (the brand) care? What's your purpose in solving this problem? 6️⃣ Where: Where do you want your audience to go next? Include a clear Call to Action (CTA). 7️⃣ What: What success will you achieve together? Paint a picture of the positive outcome.
