Last month, I had the great privilege of participating in a fascinating event on "How AI Could Supercharge Progress in Solving Climate Change," produced by my friend Peter Leyden. I was one of 10 speakers who gave ~5-minute presentations, along with Saul Griffith Himanshu Gupta John Picard and others. Mine was a sort of level-set, helping #climate professionals understand the potential of #AI, and AI professionals understand the full range of #climatesolutions that AI could accelerate.
And yes, we acknowledged the many emerging challenges AI presents, from creating autonomous self-willed actors, to creating deep fakes, to its prodigious appetite for energy and water — all of which we ignore or trivialize at our peril.
But the evening was devoted to AI's potential to accelerate progress on all of the things we need to be transforming to address the #climatecrisis at the scale, scope and speed that's required: our energy systems, transportation and mobility systems, buildings and cities, materials and manufacturing, food systems and much more.
I'd encourage you to read Pete Leyden's terrific summary article, and to click through to some of the short videos.
