Lack of Snow in Tremblant Ski Resort – This Weekend's World Cup Events Canceled Last year, 26 out of 616 FIS World Cup events were canceled due to weather-related reasons, 16 of which were alpine competitions. This weekend, the women's giant slalom was scheduled to take place in Tremblant, Canada, but the events have been canceled as there is not enough snow. "As event organizers, we see that climate change poses a threat to our sport, and we want to contribute to finding solutions to preserve white winters. That is why we are arranging the Nordic Sustainability Arena in March, in connection with the alpine World Cup events in Åre," says Olle Danielsson, CEO of the Åre World Cup. WSTM-TV Syracuse highlights that the Greek Peak ski resort in Upstate New York is unveiling new snow-making technology this week in partnership with National Grid, with the new equipment expected to enable the resort to cut its energy consumption by as much as 70% this winter season.
