We are one of MC Construction Charities of the year. They have supported us with volunteering, their partners have sent raffle prizes and £250 Trafford Centre vouchers for our forthcoming raffles and this week they have brought us food donations and more vouchers. We are grateful for their support, it's great that a local company is supporting local charities too 🙌 Thank You 😍

The Schools and Charities team at Moore Barlow has been advising many schools over the last year or so on the implications of the loss of exemption from VAT, but we have also been watching as legislation is lined up to strip independent schools of charitable rate relief. It’s been bothering me for some time that the denial of relief for one type of charity could pave the way for more measures that split the charity sector in arbitrary ways. In last night’s debate on the Non-Domestic Rating (Multipliers and Private Schools) Bill, Lord Lexden summed it up clearly: “This bill will create a two-tier charity system in our country, with independent schools in the bottom tier, where other charities may join them in due course as the government find fresh targets to hit. This bill will establish for the first time that charities that the government do not like can be stripped of their charitable treatment even while they comply with their obligations and serve the community at large through work of great public benefit.”

Do we take money away from charities by working with schools and community settings? Even though this is a common question the answer is no. In fact it's the complete opposite. We work with some very thoughtful schools and community settings who fundraise on behalf of charities... And we work with charities directly too. #charitywork #fundraisingforcharities #easywaystofundraise #easywaystoraisemoney #fundraiseandrecycle
