🧠 Learning Without Context is Like Walking Into a Sweet Shop with Empty Shelves 🍬 Picture this: You walk into a sweet shop (it would be chocolate shop for me but you get the idea!), excitement building, only to find the shelves empty. How would you feel? Frustrated? Let down? That’s exactly how learning can feel without the right context—hollow and unsatisfying. In today’s fast-paced, information-saturated world, context is no longer just important; it’s essential. Especially when it comes to live learning, where every moment counts and the stakes are high. Without context, even the most interactive sessions can fall flat, leaving learners disengaged and unfulfilled. In this months Cognitive Union we covered this very subject with some great insights from some great thought leaders. Being such an important subject and one we are passionate about Colin Smith has written about it so you can take a read too 😇 So why is context the premium ingredient for effective learning? 💭 - Palo Kaur Dale reminds us that context isn’t just the backdrop; it’s the bridge that connects learning to real-world application, making knowledge not just understood, but felt. - Andy Lancaster challenges us to think beyond content delivery—arguing that context personalises and elevates learning, turning it from a generic experience into a tailored journey. - Akvile Darulyte highlights how contextual learning is the key to deep understanding and long-term retention, ensuring that what we learn today is still with us tomorrow. The takeaway? In an era where live learning is increasingly valued, the context we provide is what makes the difference between knowledge that fades and knowledge that sticks. Don’t let your learning experiences feel like an empty sweet shop. Fill them with the context that makes every moment count. 💬 Your thoughts? As live learning becomes more valuable than ever, how can we ensure we’re providing the context that makes every session count? PS - you can read the full blog here https://lnkd.in/dJ-9UWMp Let’s make learning experiences that don’t just fill minds with information, but with insight, relevance, and lasting value. 💡 #Learning #Education #ContextMatters #LiveLearning #leadershipdevelopment #ProfessionalDevelopment #LifelongLearning

Brainstorm ideas: One common issue in the Applied learning community (ALC) is the inefficient allocation of learning resources—such as mentor time, study materials, or peer group sessions. This inefficiency arises from decisions being made without sufficient data analysis, resulting in some resources being underutilized while others are overburdened. For example, some mentors may have too many mentees to handle effectively, while others have much fewer, leading to an uneven distribution of support. How Week 1 Learning Can Address This: In Week 1, we did an introduction to the fundamentals of data analysis, which can be applied to tackle this problem, as follows 1. Collect Data: Start by gathering data on key aspects of the ALC community. This could include metrics such as the number of learners enrolled in different modules, their progress rates, participation in discussions, and the frequency of mentorship requests. Additionally, collect data on mentor availability and the number of mentees they support. 2. Analyze Data: Using the data analysis techniques learned, analyze this data to uncover patterns and trends. By, identifying which modules or topics have the highest demand for support, which learners are progressing more slowly and may need additional resources, and what times are most optimal for scheduling study sessions or mentor meetings. 3. Present Insights:With the insights gained from the data analysis, it can provide clear, actionable recommendations to the community managers or leaders. I suggest redistributing mentors to balance their workload more evenly, increasing mentor availability during peak times, or providing additional resources for modules where learners are struggling the most. In Conclusion: By applying , the ALC community needs to optimize resource allocation, ensuring that learners receive the support they need when they need it. This will not only improve the efficiency of the learning environment but also enhance the overall learning experience for everyone involved. #3MTT #3MTTweeklyReflection #3MTTLAGOS #3MTTNigeria

Action learning is an approach focused on learning through doing – by working on real problems… and a problem we feel compelled to solve. Not a case study. Not just theoretical. It’s an approach that’s perfect for working on complex and adaptive challenges. The journey of working on our ideas is all about real problems – that matter – and adaptive challenges that we care about. And of course, continual learning. Action learning requires us to be humble and reflective. This fits very well with a human-centred design and living systems approach, and a focus on building empathy. Some of the key principles both liberating and empowering: 1. Learning starts with not knowing 2. There are no experts in complex challenges 3. People who choose to take responsibility in a challenging situation have the best chance of positively impacting and resolving the challenge Not knowing feels uncomfortable. We often measure our own worth by what others think of our ideas and our expertise. Our education and employment systems have primarily rewarded getting the right answer – to technical challenges. The combination of these things often leads us to jump to solutions, because it feels safer, more certain, and in many cases, what we’ve been rewarded for. Unfortunately, this means more often than not we end up focusing on things that aren’t the real problem – and we end up with solutions that no one wants. By taking an action learning approach, we can learn to embrace the ambiguity and uncertainty. We’re on a learning journey and there are no experts. The great news is that because we’re willing to take on the challenge, we’ve got the best chance to positively impact the situation. What does this look like in practice? It’s an endless cycle of experimenting, reflecting, learning, and trying again. Want to know more? 🌟#Post-02 #BreakingIntoProductManagement #ArtandProductMusings !! Let's discuss about two paradigms stand out in session 0 by our Great Instructor Shravan Tickoo Sir, i.e., Cohort-Based Learning and Linear Learning. Understanding their dynamics is crucial for anyone looking to adapt and thrive in the digital age. 🌀 Cohort-Based Learning Imagine learning in a vibrant community where collaboration is the core. Cohort-based learning brings learners together, creating an environment rich in engagement and diverse perspectives. It transcends traditional boundaries, enabling participants from varied backgrounds to share insights and experiences, thus enriching the learning journey for everyone involved. This method not only emphasizes knowledge but significantly leans on application, fostering a deep understanding and practical skills. 📚 Linear Learning The classic, structured approach. Linear learning presents educational content in a sequential manner, where each lesson builds upon the previous one. This method offers a clear pathway of progression, gradually increasing in complexity. While it has been the backbone of traditional education systems, its individual-focused nature limits the scope for interaction and peer-to-peer learning. According to #MIT's System Dynamics, learning is a function of Knowledge (50%), Application (45%), and Talent (5%). In this formula, both cohort-based and linear learning have their merits. However, the collaborative, inclusive, and diverse nature of cohort-based learning particularly shines in fostering not just knowledge, but its application - a critical component of effective learning. Simple Strategies for Meaningful Learning Experiences 🚀 Dewey emphasizes the importance of practical learning, reflection, and the application of knowledge in real-world contexts. Combining this with Knowles' Theory of Andragogy, focusing on adult learning principles is also crucial. This means recognizing that 𝘢𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯, 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴. In learning environments, this educational philosophy can translate into: 1. 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴-𝘖𝘯 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴: Offering learners practical opportunities to learn by doing. This may include engaging in relevant practical projects for their roles, participating in simulations of work situations, or even conducting practical activities online that mimic real-world scenarios. 2. 𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴: Facilitating reflection at both individual and group levels on learning experiences. This involves providing time and space for employees to analyze and evaluate their own actions, identify lessons learned, challenges faced, and areas for improvement. Reflection can be guided through reflective questions or team discussion sessions. 3. 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: Fostering a culture of continuous feedback and mentoring within the organization. Learners can greatly benefit from receiving constructive feedback on their performance and progress, as well as guidance and support from more experienced colleagues or leaders. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘦𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴. In order to do so, it is important to conduct a needs assessment, align with learning objectives, consider the flexibility and adaptability of the chosen approach and continuously gather feedback to make any necessary iterations. When interested in following these lines of action, note that learning is not limited to online courses or synchronous instructor-centered sessions; 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘶𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴.
