👇 The Task Force report is short in length but long on substance. Worth noting that this process isn't just holding engagements and publishing a what we heard report - our EMCR and BCWS colleagues are moving very fast to turn recommendations into action before the next emergency season. Very impressive, especially in a world where government is so often moving too slowly. That said, I am also very excited by some of the longer-term recommendations, particularly the idea of a landscape resilience strategy and pursuing risk reduction more at a landscape or watershed scale. One (daunting) legislative action I hope gets some consideration is whether and how fire management is embedded in the legal requirements under the Forest and Range Practices Act governing decisions about forestry (e.g. not just dealing with immediate fuel load pressures but actually systematically reducing risk over the long-term through changes to forestry practices and continual monitoring by FREP).

The Premier’s Expert Task Force on Emergencies released their recommendations today. Based on lessons learned from #BCWildfire2023, these recommendations will help ensure that we are better prepared for the challenges ahead. Real-time implementation is already underway in advance of the 2024 wildfire season. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gv8ZpZFG

Talking about bad things that could happen like a disaster or emergency isn’t always easy. We may think we’re protecting the people we love by avoiding these conversations, but they are important to start taking steps to get ready and stay safe. This National Preparedness Month, start conversations with your family & those around you to put plans in place in and keep yourselves prepared. #NPM2024 #StartAConversation
