Google's Managers' Day! Check out what Tal Koren, our Head of Business Sectors, wrote about this unique day
Head of Business Sectors Consulting (global & local) at Lotem management consulting | Connecting People and Processes to Improve Business Performance
Today, we had the privilege of participating in Google's Managers' Day! In times of constant change and high complexity, we engaged with the managers to discuss leading through uncertainty and managerial courage. We used our unique sessions, which included watching the incredible movie "Air" 🏀 and sharing intriguing insights about our brains as part of our brain-friendly series 🧠. It was incredibly interesting to learn about the challenges and experiences of Google managers and to brainstorm coping strategies together. A huge thanks to my professional and amazing partners from Lotem : Ahinoam Ilan and Eliana Alperovitch. You are the best! And a massive thank you to our wonderful partners at Google : Sivan Saydof Bloch, Yael Greenspan - Shalev and Liron Aramczuk , for inviting us! Looking forward to our next collaboration!

Leadership Fail? Google's CEO May Have Forgotten a Vital Leadership Lesson: Google has struggled with layoffs, search, and the roll-out of Gemini. But has Google's CEO also failed "to shepherd the organization's culture.". Often misunderstood, "culture is about the way people feel about working for you. It's about their relationship to their work and the people they do that work with -- especially their leaders." The content raises these issues: To what extent is Google's culture broken? How would different priorities, vision, and culture make a difference for Google? Does Google need a new leader? #Google #GoogleCEO #Googleculture #Inc #leadership #JoyceFlory #ghostwriter #Gemini #SundarPinchai

EFFECTIVE TEAMWORK Teamwork is the harmonious interplay of trust, care, and respect among team members. Trust forms the bedrock, allowing individuals to rely on each other's abilities and intentions. Care fosters a supportive environment, where team members genuinely invest in each other's well-being and success. Respect ensures that everyone's contributions are valued, regardless of their role or background, creating a sense of inclusivity and appreciation. Together, these elements cultivate a synergy that transcends individual efforts, propelling the team towards shared goals with cohesion and efficiency. In essence, teamwork isn't just about tasks; it's about nurturing relationships built on mutual understanding and empathy, driving collective achievement.
Google’s transformation from a garage project to a tech giant is a testament to the power of teamwork and trust. Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and their early team members showcased exceptional teamwork skills by revolutionizing how everyone searches the web. From starting in a garage in suburban Menlo Park, California, owned by Susan Wojcicki (employee #16 and former CEO of YouTube), to later expanding and moving into “The Googleplex,” today Google makes hundreds of products used by billions of people across the globe. One must always remember that a “team” is not just people who work at the same time in the same place. A real team is a group of very different individuals who enjoy working together and who share a commitment to working cohesively to help the organization achieve its common goals and purpose. This spirit of collaboration was evident in Google’s early team members, whose dedication and hard work were instrumental in the company’s success today. Both quotes highlight the essence of teamwork and collaboration in achieving success. In any organization, whether it's a tech giant like Google or a startup, the synergy among diverse individuals united by a common purpose can propel it forward. Recognizing and nurturing this spirit of collaboration not only fosters innovation but also enhances productivity and morale. Steve Jobs' acknowledgment underscores the importance of collective effort in achieving great accomplishments, emphasizing that no individual, no matter how talented, can achieve success alone. #leadership #management #leadershipdevelopment #employeeengagement

Excellent post! In addition to this, trust in our common decisions, faith in the decision-making process, and hope that these decisions will lead to success are crucial elements. These qualities foster a collaborative environment where diverse ideas can flourish, and collective efforts are maximized. When each team member trusts the process and believes in the shared vision, it enhances motivation and drives the team toward achieving remarkable outcomes. A little late, but congratulations to Nitika Gupta for making partner! If you're not familiar, making partner is one of the primary ways that Microsoft recognizes superstar employees, and from my limited external viewpoint, she is certainly worthy. Nitika will be speaking at #hipconf24 in New Orleans this year. This is her second time at HIPConf, and IIRC Nitika's first HIPConf is where I first met her. She blew away everyone in the room away her in-depth knowledge of how Azure (now EntraId) authentication worked under the covers, particularly with the way it used ML to identify and rank various types of risk signals to deduce whether an authentication was "risky" and should require (for instance) an MFA challenge. My favorite audience interaction from that session (paraphrased for additional humor. Also, it was several years ago.) Attendee: "So if one of my employees login is challenged, how do I know what risk factor caused it." Nitika: "I can't tell you." Attendee: "Well why not, I'll have to explain it to them." Nitika: "Because I don't know." Attendee: "Who knows then?" Nitika: "No one knows." Attendee: "Uhhh... what?" Nitika: "The ML algorithms figure it out. We can't actually tell what specific thing caused the MFA challenge." Attendee: <head slowly explodes> Room: <minor uproar> This was several years ago, maybe 2018, when people were genuinely suspicious of anything that smelled of non-determinism or "AI". Of course nowadays, most people are quite happy to let ChatGPT write their code or work out their personal financial plans, so that interaction would be entirely different today. In any case, history has shown that Entra authentication, and the risk-driven ML behind it, works awfully well, and rarely gets in the way. I'm really looking forward to having Nitika back at HIPConf to provide some insight on the latest in Entra authentication and authorization.
I am incredibly pleased to congratulate Nitika Gupta on her promotion to Partner! Nitika is the product management leader for Conditional Access, the Credentials Framework, Authenticator, and our posture initiatives including Security Defaults and Microsoft Managed Policies. Nitika also drives our Zero Trust product story as well as our US Federal executive order, driving substantial grown in a complicated environment through a combination of business focus, technical strength, and the ability to drive coalitions across Microsoft's functions. Nitika is a powerful force for fostering diverse talent through mentoring, hiring, training, and public engagement.
