My name is Marjorie Dearborn. And I live at the Willows. I'm 100 years old. I don't feel 100 but I guess I am. It feels like 60, like 40, like 25. Like an adult. We came here 13 or 14 years ago. We selected the Willows because of the swimming pool. I love the idea of that. I'm not a good swimmer particularly, but I just like to exercise that way. I married in into Worcester and came in the 1950s. I married Jim Donnelly and he was going into his sophomore year at Dartmouth. I was going into my freshman year at Smith made my major was was art history. Art and met in the summer of 41 and you're all too young to know what that was, but that's a fatal summer, the beginning of World War Two. He of course, he went overseas and we were separated for a long time, but we were married as soon as he soon as the war was over. In 1945, the next 10 years, I had bought 5 babies, five children and devoted myself to them and the community since. I can't imagine. A better city than Worcester to live in and raise children. And it's it's safer than so many places. Seriously, I love Worcester. The services are wonderful. I just love you. Get as much or as little assistance as you need. Everything is here, my life. Style didn't have to change when I moved, but it has changed as I've lived here because I've needed more, more help. I, I can get transportation to medical appointments and I, I don't have to cook if I don't want to. I do like to cook. So I, I, I cook a lot. But the dining room was always there at the Bistro and is more than enough activities. And there's an intellectual. Life, which is very important to me. There's there's a lot of entertainment and educational lectures here that I love. The history group, the poetry group, the philosophy group, the meditation group. There's something for everyone. And there's the swimming pool for me and the the exercise classes are a joy. I've learned I've had muscles I didn't know I had. My philosophy on life leaves the place better than you found it. That was the motto of the Girl Scouts when I was young and my mother was the Girl Scout. Captain Salmon hasn't just a limited my life at all. It's made it possible to continue a lot of things that I would not have been able to to continue. Oh, and the maintenance. Oh, I love the boys there. That, you know, I don't have to worry about when things go wrong, but somebody comes over and fixes it. It it eliminates a lot of stresses.

While both models have a place in the current marketplace, it's important to know the difference between an online lead aggregator and a placement agent. A lead aggregator tends to be referral site or service that takes your loved one's information and fires it off to people they're contracted with in the area that might meet their needs; a placement agent or Senior Care Advisory agent takes the time to sit down with the client, assess their needs, and make recommendations on communities.
While they sound pretty similar, a placement agent also coordinates, schedules, and accompanies their client on the tours of communities, helping to streamline the experience and reduce the stress families feel when trying to navigate this system. They also tend to be local, in the communities they work with on a constant basis.
It's important to make sure you understand the differences when looking for help finding a place for your loved one.

My heart is asking me to listen on sidewalks a lot and double down on writing my book on Sidewalk Talk.
And May marks 9 years of Sidewalk Talk. Happy Birthday Sidewalk Talk. 🎂 Holy $hittballs you have taught me a lot.
I am doing "book therapy" right now because I want to say some dangerous stuff about our dehumanizing ways. I want to be clear in my psyche as I write. The Identity Trap (yes a nod to Yascha Mounk's book of the same name) we are in right now I will roar about. Listening on sidewalks has chipped away at my reverence to identity obsession while I remain committed to inclusion and justice.
I am glad to have sorted how to run Sidewalk Talk sustainably to my spirit while allowing it to safely expand. I burnt myself out three years ago. Lots of soul work, mistakes, learning boundaries.
Operationally, Sidewalk Talk has expanded beyond a background checked chapter leader model where folks must pay to be a leader bc the application process is costly. Many just wanted to listen with a friend and not do a chapter.
So...Tah Dah...we listened.
Sidewalk Talk now gives you the "How To" to grab a friend and go listen in a friend group on the Sidewalk safely and effectively for FREE ... not even needing to be expressly part of Sidewalk Talk. A complete democratization.
We still charge money for our trainings on Listening and Conflict resolution and chapter leadership so we can cover operating expenses. But everything else is freely offered. Cool eh? Go listen?

“It’s really the speed and the targeting that is just so important,” Watts said. “If you can get somebody into four walls and a roof and make sure that they have a community of support … then amazing things can happen.”
Sam Watts and your team at Welcome Hall Mission take a bow. 👏👏👏
Rapid rehousing is a crucial initiative and particularly effective for those newly experiencing homelessness. While the article is clear that this initiative did not target more complex, chronic cases - that’s okay, because newly unhoused individuals require our support also. Early intervention and preventing chronic homelessness is an important goal in our efforts to reduce and end homelessness.
The inability of people to afford to obtain and maintain housing underlies much of our national homelessness problem. Rapid rehousing provides immediate stability, reversing the fortunes of individuals and families and easing their trauma. The results speak for themselves - 400 people housed and 85% have retained that housing.
Studies show that rapid rehousing improves housing stability and promotes better long-term outcomes compared to extended stays in shelters. It is a cost-effective strategy that alleviates the burden on emergency services and fosters healthier, more resilient communities.
