Salvatore Mercogliano, Ph.D., a maritime historian and former merchant mariner, holds degrees in Military and Naval History, Maritime History, Nautical Archaeology, and Marine Transportation. Currently, he serves as an assistant professor of history at Campbell University in North Carolina. His YouTube channel, "What's Going on With Shipping?", focuses on the global maritime industry, covering headline topics, underlying issues, and making shipping accessible to all.
Regarding the MV Dali incident in Baltimore:
- The Maersk-chartered MV Dali lost propulsion just before colliding with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on March 26, 2024. This collision caused the bridge span to collapse and sent a construction crew into the water.
Notably, the MV Dali has a troubled history. It was involved in a previous crash in Antwerp, Belgium in 2016, attributed to errors by the ship's master and pilot. Additionally, in 2023, it was detained in San Antonio, Chile due to problems related to its "propulsion and auxiliary machinery," according to records from the intergovernmental shipping regulator Tokyo MOU.
Sal Mercogliano's YouTube channel provides insights into these maritime incidents and other shipping-related matters. His most recent video discusses the MV Dali collision with the Baltimore Key Bridge and its implications.

An interesting find in the historical documents showing the original surveyed route 1872-3 that crossed the Georgia Strait (Salish Sea) just North of Campbell River... of course World Wars prevented the construction of those pieces.
As far as I'm aware the designated ROW still exists to CR as I had someone that lives along it mention it's beside their properly line.
Let's protect what we have, and perhaps in the future it could be built upon.
