McLaren Construction has started work on a £30m logistics scheme in a former Nottinghamshire pit village. McLaren Construction (Midlands and North) is putting up two new industrial units totalling 550,000 sq ft across 28.9 acres in the village of Shireoaks, near Worksop. Sited midway between the A1 and the M1 at the northern end of the East Midlands, the development is a German/US joint venture of Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH and Invesco Real Estate. McLaren will oversee all aspects of construction for the £30m, including associated access roads and landscaping, and has a 45-week completion target. Soft landscaping, turfing and planting has been undertaken as part of the initial grounds and landscape works and complex aspects of the build will include the S38 carriageway to an adoptable standard throughout the site, alongside the implementation of a culvert drainage system.

"By using timber frame at Vallum Heights, we have been able to reduce build time by up to four weeks, we would anticipate this would increase as our teams become more familiar with the process. We have reduced our carbon footprint and delivered more energy efficient properties, which will reduce net energy consumption by over 25%, providing significant savings on energy bills for our homebuyers." Timber frame panels for Vallum Heights were made in Kirkwood’s state of the art manufacturing facility, using the latest machinery in a semi-automated process. The structures are delivered to the site where a crane lifts the panels, floor, and roof into place usually within a single day, allowing following on trades to complete the build in double quick time. Works have begun on the first UK industrial scheme in the East Midlands for a joint venture. North West developer Cityheart has picked local contractor Oak Construction Projects LTD to deliver the first phase of its 440-flat Stopford Park scheme in Stockport town centre. Local builder lands first phase of Stopford Park Construction work will start this month on Bosden, the first of three residential buildings at Stopford Park between Greek Street and Wellington Road in Stockport town centre. Post completion of the remediation contract with HBD during 2024, Mitchell Design and Construction Ltd are pleased to announce the commencement of the main contract works with HBD and their JV partner Feldberg Capital at INTER, Tewin Road, Welwyn Garden City. “ORIGIN” is the new partnership that will bring forward high specification, sustainable, speculative industrial logistic units to the market place throughout the UK. Welwyn Garden City is one of the first schemes to be constructed under this joint venture. The contract is to build a new 6,619m2 industrial logistics building, sub divided into 3 units, each with their own self-contained fully fitted offices. The units will become available during Q4 2025. There is no doubting that the UK construction industry is desperately short of skills and resources to build the homes we need. The need to think differently is evident.
