We often hear from OBGYN providers about the challenges of patient compliance in anemia management, especially due to GI side effects. This can impact outcomes significantly. Check out this study showcasing Sucrosomial® Iron, a highly tolerable oral option. Patients with moderate postpartum anemia experienced an average Hb increase of 2.5g/dL in just 10 days, with anemia correction achieved in only 30 days. #Postpartumanemia #Irondeficiency

The latest updates to the #BeersCriteria include several medications commonly used in primary care. Regarding #anticoagulation, #warfarin should be avoided as initial therapy and #apixaban should be used in patients with reduced #renalfunction. These guidelines looked particularly at #antithrombotic medications because of new #evidence arising in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolism. In addition to the previous recommendations, the use of #aspirin ➡️ is no longer recommended in older adults ⬅️. https://lnkd.in/dTCfyaQY Enrico Bucci Vincenza Gianfredi

What’s your take on this patient puzzle? A 75 year old female patient presented to the ER with anasarca edema. She had a history of permanent atrial fibrillation and hypertension. Upon clinical examination, increased jugular venous pressure was noted with a holosystolic murmur. What did the bedside examination using Kosmos discover? Read the complete case study showing additional video clips and share in the comments what you think Kosmos revealed! https://loom.ly/ryKSTXw #KosmosPlatform #POCUS #emergencymedicine #patientcare #healthcare #KosmosCases #diagnosticdebate #POCUSFOAMed #FOAMed #MedEd #medicaleducation

Myth: Patients with recto-perineal fistula suffer from constipation because the opening is too small. Reality: The small size does exacerbate the constipation but even after the operation, when they have an adequate anus size, patients will still suffer from severe constipation. This is something Denmark (& everyone else) could learn from, and a very simple policy to update to bring women's health care forward. Omg yes we're talking about women's health again on LinkedIn, but it's here we can start serious discussions and make positive, impactful change, so read on. A seemingly simple procedure, inserting an IUD, a spiral, that many women describe as worse than childbirth, the most excruciating pain they've felt, and for me personally, this plus feeling like my soul was being scraped, it was personal and awful. (& I had one where it hurt a lot, but I gritted my teeth, and one where I could almost not bear it and was pleading with the doctor to stop). All done without any local anaesthetic. "Discomfort" is how it is described and just like many things within women's health, we downplay it in how we discuss it, in the language used professionally and in policy. This is an easy change to make. Who should we talk to?
The pain associated with IUD insertion has been an extremely distressing experience for many women. IUDs have been used for over 50 years, and we are finally seeing the issue of pain during the procedure being acknowledged. A win for women’s health? Yes. A long overdue one? Also yes. “Doctors have been accused of ignoring the discomfort. For the first time, federal health officials recommended on Tuesday that physicians counsel women about pain management before the procedure. This updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may lead clinicians to take the pain more seriously and to consider using anesthetics more often, experts said.” #womenshealth #birthcontrol #femalehealth #painmanagement #iud Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gDZpf66b

🌐 Unpacking Patient Adherence in Diabetic Limb Salvage Programs: A Deeper Look 🌐 Our latest study, published in The International Journal of Lower Extremity Wounds, examines the intricate relationship between patient adherence and clinical outcomes in diabetic limb salvage (DLS) programs. Beyond the numbers, it’s clear that adherence is not merely about showing up but reflects layers of demographic, behavioral, and health variables that shape each patient's journey. Key insights from analyzing over 2,700 patients: Nonadherence was observed in 40.2%, with correlations to age, ethnicity, and HbA1c levels. Missed appointments were often driven by patient-centered factors (50.4%). A paradox emerged: nonadherent patients had higher minor amputation rates and healthcare utilization, yet lower mortality and better limb-preservation outcomes. This suggests that adherence is more complex than it appears, possibly signaling unique needs among nonadherent patients that could reshape our intervention strategies. Could individualized pathways that address these nuances enhance both adherence and outcomes? I invite fellow healthcare professionals and researchers to explore the implications of these findings with us. Your thoughts on how we can refine approaches to adherence in complex cases would be invaluable. #DiabetesCare #PatientAdherence #HealthOutcomes #DiabeticFootUlcer #ResearchInsights #HealthcareStrategy #HealthBehavior #LowerExtremityAmputation #IntegratedCare #DataDrivenHealthcare #PublicHealth https://lnkd.in/gCaDZERq

We’ve published our updated guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. #Endometriosis is the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK, affecting around 1.5 million women. Commenting on today’s publication, Jonathan Benger, chief medical officer and interim director of the Centre for Guidelines at NICE commented: "We recognise that capacity in endometriosis clinics remains an issue, and that waiting times to be seen in secondary care can sometimes be lengthy. This update aims to help tackle these problems by clarifying what high quality care for women with suspected endometriosis should be." Further information: https://lnkd.in/eewtyfX3

When diagnosing and monitoring scoliosis, health professionals must request a standing scoliosis X-ray, which typically includes two essential images: a posterior-anterior (PA) view and a lateral view, with the pelvis and hips in the frame. 🩻 These images are crucial for calculating the Cobb angle, which measures the degree of spinal curvature. 📏 A Cobb angle under 10 degrees is considered normal, while scoliosis severity ranges from mild to severe depending on the angle. X-rays are vital for confirming scoliosis with a Cobb angle of 10 degrees or more, along with vertebral rotation. 🔍 ScoliCare offers a free X-ray and case review service to assist healthcare providers in ensuring the best treatment outcomes for patients. The free X-ray review service is also available to patients. 🩺 Visit the link here: https://lnkd.in/gfWeWpGH #ScoliCare #ScoliBalance #ScoliBrace #Scoliosis #ScoliosisEducation #HyperKyphosis #ScoliosisTreatment #ScoliosisAwareness #SpinalHealth
