Deadline extension - 10 May - Rural England Prosperity Fund This great funding is open to groups and parish/town councils in rural areas for a wide variety of projects. Don't wait, get in touch and see if your idea could be funded. Apply for £5,000 to £25,000 towards capital investment in community infrastructure, providing services and assets for local people and to benefit the local economy. Create long lasting community assets, such as a building or equipment for community benefit. The intention is to strengthen the social fabric of communities, building pride in place by improving local community infrastructure, creating opportunities for social connections to develop and thrive. Projects must be in a rural area e.g. towns, villages and hamlets with populations below 10,000, or market or ‘hub towns’ with populations of up to 30,000 that serve their surrounding rural areas as centres of employment and in providing services. Check out this week's edition of the FUNDamentals newsletter from Grantcycle and Watkins Public Affairs. This week we're trying something different with the format. Instead of a laundry list of grants, we've broken things down by industry, including economic development, energy and environment, housing and community development, and transportation. Give it a read and let me know what you think. #grants #energy #federalgrants #funding #housing #communitydevelopment #economicdevelopment #environment #transportation

Attention all community planners and energy enthusiasts! Do you, like me, need help finding grants that support small and rural communities in their comprehensive energy planning and zoning efforts? As it turns out, if a community isn't LMI and doesn't qualify for CDBG funds, it can be challenging to find other options. Are there any other funding opportunities that you are aware of? Perhaps through the IRA? Let's share our knowledge and support each other in our efforts to make our communities more sustainable and resilient. #communityplanning #energyzoning #sustainability

Last week, I had the privilege to attend HOPE's Economic Mobility Forum in Selma, Alabama. The topic of discussion was Seizing the Moment: Maximizing Federal Investment in Under Resourced Communities. Communities like those in the small towns in the Black Belt of Alabama, have often faced barriers in accessing the kinds of federal funds that large cities and wealthier communities have had access to for decades. These small towns have very limited staff to write grants and manage complex grant programs and yet have great need for water, road and sewer improvement, disaster recovery, housing and community development, among others. Without intentional support and accessible program design, the new historic federal programs in infrastructure and greenhouse gas reduction would likely perpetuate the current disparities. What are federal agencies doing to ensure access to underserved areas? Read more about the discussion in my new piece on the Hope Policy Institute blog.

The City of St. Albert, AB, is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable future with its new Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, supported by GMF’s Community Efficiency Financing (CEF) initiative. This innovative financing model empowers homeowners to make energy-efficient upgrades to their homes with no upfront costs. Administered by Alberta Municipalities | Strength in Members, the program focuses on single-detached homes, which comprise 73% of the city's private dwellings. Homeowners can finance a wide range of upgrades, from HVAC systems and solar panels to insulation and water conservation measures. Designed with equity in mind, the program aims to address energy poverty and ensure accessibility for all residents, regardless of their energy literacy levels. Incentives are also available to encourage participation and deeper energy retrofits. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gM7UeUMu

In order to effectively address our development challenges, it is crucial that we address the real issues within our local municipalities, which holds the responsibility for this mandate. Without doing so, no significant progress will be made in meeting the demand. My stance is that the main obstacle is not the lack of funds, but rather the absence of visionary leadership, innovative thinking, and genuine dedication. I align with the viewpoint of finding solutions rather than viewing this as an insurmountable issue. The task of providing infrastructure (such as land and housing) for our community is not as complicated as it is portrayed.

Our national representative body, ACRE has published a set of recommendations for the next government to make sure no #rural community is left behind. They clustered around the following themes: ✔️ Proactively ‘rural proofing’ policy to make sure the needs of people in the countryside are considered from the outset ✔️ Investing in services, infrastructure and affordable housing ✔️ Supporting community-led action ✔️ Enabling communities to contribute to, and benefit from a transition to #NetZero We support these recommendations! https://buff.ly/4adlUXK

A new report by Sustrans and CREATE STREETS considers the use of "Predict and Provide" transport modelling and a "vision-led" approach to transport modelling, and explores the different community and transport picture that could emerge using the different approaches. The report, "Stepping off the road to nowhere", explores a new housing extension at Chippenham in Wiltshire as a case study. The report proposes that a "vision-led" transport planning approach could result in delivery of the same number of new homes, but with less loss of greenfield land. Active travel provision for day to day journeys is central to the alternative proposal, reducing the need for investment in a new major road. The project has been funded with help from Rees Jeffreys Road Fund and Foundation for Integrated Transport You can read the report here https://lnkd.in/e6PV86Fv #newhousing #transportmodelling #FutureOfRoads #activetravel
