✨Five years at Campari America!✨ When I saw this job description back in 2018 posted by a few people I used to work with who had since moved on to Campari, I knew it was my dream job. It’s unusual to find a role that has unlikely combinations of everything you want, and even more unusual to be able to morph it each year based on our growing needs - curating the hospitality experience within our office and running the bar & Academy spaces, while being heavily involved in building brands and their strategies (for the whole portfolio and for our innovation pipeline), and working with the field to meet their needs for accounts and customers through education and Academy. That’s morphed into so much more than what it was five years ago, and I almost can’t believe there was a time when I did almost everything myself - including washing all the glasses. I’ve woven the Academy into the fabric of so much of what our organization does at a local and global scale, and it’s taught me so much about business and myself in the process. It has become the most cross-functional and broadly demanding role I’ve ever had - which has shifted what “I” do into what “we” do in a profound way. From just over 300 attendees in our early days in 2019 to a staggering 7,000 in 2023, the journey has been remarkable (and that’s only the people through the doors of our HQ!). Every year since our modest beginnings, and navigating through the challenges of COVID, has shaped us. That would be a lot of glasses to wash if I were still doing it all alone! Huge thanks to my team, those that feed into our work streams, and the agencies - their support is how this is all possible (and why I’m still standing). The old saying, 'go fast, go alone; go far, go together', has never been more appropriate. Now, I'm excited to focus not just on creating new things but on optimizing what we already have. Shocking that I would be so pragmatic, I know! Building the plane as we’ve been flying it since 2019 has been an exhilarating challenge, but now it's time to refine our course. Here's to the next chapter! ✨

🏆Awards which are based on customer feedback and choice are the ones that the company should value. I believe this is one of these awards. At the same time, awards mean that we need to work more to deliver what customers expect and value. However, from my point of view, it's not only about delivering the expected but also educating our customers and the public (where the brand should move and what the brand should represent). I wrote about this in my post describing the experience from the bistro that I have owned for a few years. The saying that the customer is always right should not apply unconditionally. I still feel the same way. What is your opinion on the role of brand and customer interaction?

For me, one of the most interesting and impressive marketing feats of the 21st century is Guinness becoming the #1 drank pint and a cultural phenomenon in the UK. This 20 min interview with Diageo UK Marketing Director Anna MacDonald will teach you a lot about modern brand management. Particularly like the insights around: ➡️ how they made Guinness a summer drink using key brand assets ➡️ the importance of protecting their customers (the trade) ➡️ how they maintain the brand's history but yet modernise it ➡️ and the idea that brand purpose doesn't need to be about 'saving the world'. Diageo is such a good breeding ground for smart, pragmatic, strategic, mindful marketers who know how to manage a brand for the future while revering its past. Last year John Legend and Rajakumari penned the Johnnie Walker/ Walkers & Co anthem to include these words: …There is more to life … …step off that borderline…there is so much we can explore… …you wanna turn it all the way up … ..Let’s Keep Walking, keep on walking …. This rallying cry was as close to my own purpose as it gets (at that time just in the subconscious) as I started my Diageo journey over six years back. It has been an absolute privilege to lead the India & South Asia luxury premium ++ business and iconic brand portfolio cross functionally to unprecedented heights. DIAGEO India gave a broad canvas and I had the privilege of setting an audacious vision of shaping the culture of socialisation while breaking new grounds of growth by premiumisation. In some time, it became the overarching driving force for teams across the organisation and like how… There we were - winning one milestone to the other, cruising through turbulence and tailwinds alike. A lot of what we led with, added hugely to normalisation of spirits as a category overall. Campaigns that won consumers & awards, platforms to celebrate new dimensions of inclusivity (beyond gender), future ready, sustainability forward innovations, growth in multiples and not just in CAGRs, all lines of the P&L brimming with healthy glow! Marked my last days at Diageo this week and spent them well with people who fuel it all. You have all left me with huge gratitude for your partnership in every dimension possible. Teams, stakeholders, colleagues who walk the talk, learn and unlearn , challenge<>equally get challenged and yet prevail. A gigantic thanks for every bit of the enrichment that I leave with. What is next ? A new chapter you say… I say its time for a new book! Very excited for the leap on the horizon... but for now, its all about a wee savour the pause!

Introducing David Robinson, Global Brand Ambassador at Franklin & Sons, and this week’s incredible #IndustryInspiration ! 💙🍾 Thus far, David has had a wonderful career in the hospitality sector, from working in bar leadership roles across the UK and Australia whilst maintaining regular appearances at cocktail competitions, including the World Class GB Semi Finals in 2016, to becoming a full-time brand ambassador with Pernod Ricard in 2019. David now finds himself at Franklin & Sons and is the Global Brand Ambassador.    Telling us more about his role, David explains, “I am responsible for developing international brand advocacy platforms, implementing them in key global markets alongside local commercial and distribution teams, working with key contacts in market to ensure their success. As a branch of the Marketing team, I work to ensure the brand’s growth and recognition by utilising my experience and knowledge of the industry to develop our advocacy strategies, establishing and guiding areas focused on the trade.”   Speaking on his love for the brand, David shares, “The thing that I love most about the brand itself, is our commitment to bartenders and the on trade. Franklin & Sons was established in the on-trade, and we work closely with bartenders to keep a finger on the pulse of industry trends and movements, helping our brand direction to meet and support these.   “This year, we have had the pleasure of launching ‘In the Mix’, our brand-new bartender advocacy programme that celebrates and empowers the industry, providing educational tools for bartenders at all levels as well as opportunities for them to grow their careers.”    The future looks bright for David as he shares his short and long-term goals, “In every role I have held in my career, the constant goal has always been to learn something new every day, so that I can develop and progress into the next chapter of my career, whatever that may be. My focus for the year ahead lies in successfully establishing ‘In the Mix’ in the UK alongside our local brand team and taking our learnings into the second year of the programme. “With that success will come the longer-term goal of successfully establishing the programme in our wider markets to further promote Franklin & Sons’ commitment to bartenders across the world.”   To conclude, David offers some words of advice to fellow hospitality professionals, “The advice I always give to my fellow hospitality professionals is simple: never stop learning, always be proud of what you do and create environments where ideas can be shared.     “As an addition to this, you should never be shy about believing in yourself and your ability to grow. If you have an ambition to try something new, be it a cocktail competition, the creation of new drinks for a menu, bringing a new product to market or even aspirations for a promotion in your area of expertise, don’t let a fear of failure stop you.”
