scooped some big (like $250M big!) news about an Nvidia challenger last night 👇 d-Matrix, which is designing an AI chip it says will be more efficient and cost effective than Nvidia's H100, is trying to raise $250 million in its Series C, I'm told. plus, the company plans to debut its chip IRL in November. the company is five years old so this launch is a long time coming. a lot of these companies are raising big $$$ these days. Groq, Etched and Recogni all closed big rounds this year. chips are a tough business though! as Ish Dugal and Umesh Padval explained to me: 1) takes YEARS and a LOT of money to even build a product 2) need to build good software around the chip 3) manufacturing this hardware is pricey 4) fewer VCs invest in chips (technical due diligence is hard!), so there's less capital to go around 5) the Nvidia-sized elephant in the room of course, if your chip takes off... well, the opportunity is *massive*, as we've seen. full story here: https://lnkd.in/g3whMrP8 The Information #ai #chips #tech #semiconductors
