Design phase is one of the basic and most important stage used to fabricate and install specific pipelines, Some pipelines may be installed above ground from original design basis with out any additional protection like protective coating or other suitable protection means, Although the environments surrounding may have remote nature like deserts or other soil areas showing groundwater levels rise in some months of the year. After some periods had been elapsed, pipelines may become partially or fully covered by sand due to sand movement in desert environments and in case of heavy rains, water flooding made soil around pipeline wet which could strongly initiate corrosion cell if unfortunately meet the undesirable contaminates mixed with sand (i.e. sand+clay or sand +gypsum) where sand its self is non corrosive. For areas showing ground water raise, in such case the pipeline may fully or partially immersed based on the quantity and level of water. in both cases external protection against external corrosion threats by applying suitable protective measures as coating and/or wrapping will promote pipeline operating life cycle and corrosion mitigation strategy. RBI for all installed pipeline should be revised once any parameter of design is significantly changed like pressure, temperature, fluid chemistry, service type and conditions like our subject change pipeline from above ground to partially/fully buried condition which should be taken in consideration. some damage mechanisms should be created and considered and not limited to soil corrosion, MIC and atmospheric corrosion. #pipelines #design #corrosion #RBI
