A pioneering online rehabilitation service that was piloted by SameYou and University College London during the pandemic when brain injury survivors were being discharged from acute care prematurely, has been shortlisted for a national award. The Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) Awards celebrate the delivery of exceptional care to patients and the Neurorehabilitation Online Team (NROL) is one of just five finalists in the Digital Practice category. The team from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which later implemented the programme, use online video sessions to provide group specialist neurorehabilitation for people in Lancashire and South Cumbria living with brain injuries or stroke. Meet us at the Healthcare Design Conference and Expo on October 5-8 in Indianapolis. Booth #945 Joseph Claffy, John Claffy, & Kevin Claffy will be on site showcasing a few of our newest products, including the Solstice Safeguard Bed which will be reviewed for a Nightingale Award. Here's the problem we solved: The prevalence of seizure disorders in acute psychiatric facilities is 5-6 times higher than reports in the general population. Almost 1 of 4 (23.4%) patients scored positive to one or more screening criteria for epilepsy or other seizure disorders in these environments. The use of medications in psychiatric settings are significant predictors of inpatient falls. Extrinsic Factors (environmental factors) that contribute to patient falls include a lack of support equipment, such as side rails when patients are getting in and out of bed. Did you know? The average cost of a fall is about $14,000 The Solstice Safeguard Bed is the first molded bed that prevents falls AND it's still ligature resistant. Come see for yourself! #HCD #HCD2024 #HealthcareDesign #BehavioralHealthFurniture

Award winning Flat Stan First Aid. Internationally recognised. Helping others teach children First Aid. Suppliers of the CPR Bra.
It is important that needs are met and that people know where to go for support. Here is part of a qualitative study by the ERC. Highlighting reported psychological issues of co-survivors post-delivery of CPR in Out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest; Out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a major healthcare concern affecting up to half a million people per year worldwide. 1 In England, up to 80% of OHCA’s occur in a person’s own place of residence, with approximately half of all cases witnessed by a bystander, and bystander initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is attempted in 78% of witnessed cases. 2 There is growing recognition that witnessing an OHCA and assisting in CPR is a highly traumatic event and that so-called ‘co-survivors’ (those involved in the resuscitation attempt) are likely to have unmet needs. 3 Currently, there is no nationally agreed commissioned model for the follow-up of OHCA survivors or co-survivors despite calls from one major national society to standardise practices. It is not just about DR ABC. #Support #Mentalhealth #Conversations #PTSD

Medical Director | Clinical Governance | Healthcare & Medicine | Aged & Palliative Care | Pre-Hospital & Retrieval Medicine | Emergency Management | Emerging Therapies
This is at the core of improving care for all. By orienting our care to what matters to the individual, and truth telling about what to expect after this episode of care, we can steer our health system in a better direction.
Company Director - Chair Mable, Chair Racing and Sport Technology, Deputy Chair BeyondBlue, Chair Violet , Director Australian Made, National Co -Convenor of Liberals for Yes
I spoke with Jill AM MAICD, AM MAICD, from The Australian Financial Review about our death-denying culture and its impact on people, families, health and aged care systems. Put simply, today's systems aren’t serving us well enough. Australia’s public health systems are in crisis. Hospitals nationwide are overwhelmed, dealing with bed blocks, elective surgery delays, ED overcrowding, and ambulance ramping. A new evidence-based review from The Violet Initiative uncovered some startling truths: ✴ At least a quarter of all hospital beds are occupied by patients in their last year of life, predominantly elderly individuals. ✴ Elderly, frail people in the last stage of life often face a distressing cycle of hospitalisation following acute health deterioration. ✴ Nearly one-third of emergency calls involve patients nearing the end of life, most of whom are over 75. ✴ Typically, people are transported by ambulance from home or from residential aged care to the emergency department, admitted to the hospital, and often end up in intensive care on life support. ✴ Ironically, many of these older adults do not wish to be hospitalised and prefer not to die in a hospital setting. ✴ Research shows that dying patients often receive high-intensity care without clear benefits, frequently at odds with their known preferences. This issue affects everyone. I'm calling on federal and state governments to help all Australians talk about and plan for the last stage of life so more people can have the dignified and compassionate experience they want and deserve. Let's make the #laststageoflife the best it can be for everyone involved. Please share this message and don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like to help. Violet's CEO, Melissa Reader, will discuss this on 2GB later this afternoon. Tune in. Link to the article is in the comments. #healthcare #agedcare #compassion #support

Imagine you have severe PTSD due to more than 70 broken bones and 40+ major surgeries, and you end up in the ER with a fracture and find yourself being "boarded." As described by an emergency room physician in this article, it is not only scary, humiliating, and incredibly stressful - it turns out that this practics of leaving people in hallways in an ER for extended periods of time (e.g. days!) is a intentional cost saving strategy for hospitals. They do this so they can save their hospital in-patient beds for people with better insurance and/or who need more expensive/lucrative procedures. For people with disabilities like me who have been boarded and/or who have sat with loved ones who are experiencing this disrespectful indignity that puts our health at further risk, know that this practice is now common in most emergency rooms in the U.S. Friends and DEI colleagues Nancy J. Di Dia, PCC Donna M. Wilson and Monica iurlaro and I are on a mission to raise awareness about health care equity issues and we invite you to join us in shining a bright light on both practices like ER boarding that need to end, and lifting up emerging new best practices like enhancing access to clinical trials for underserved populations that need to be replicated. Tell us, what do you think. Have you or a loved one been boarded in an ER? How can we advocate to ban this practice? #healthcareequity #disabilityinclusion #underservedcommunities

As ENT specialists, we are uniquely positioned to identify and address health concerns that patients often overlook - whether it’s chronic sinusitis, hearing loss, or complex airway disorders. The challenge we face is educating our patients on the importance of early intervention and regular screening. Many times, patients only seek care when symptoms become debilitating. I encourage my fellow healthcare workers and physicians to collaborate in raising awareness about ENT health. By working together across specialties, we can emphasize preventative care, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the long-term impacts of untreated conditions. Let’s make ENT health a priority, not an afterthought. How are you integrating ENT health into your patient care approach? Feel free to comment below or send me a message! #physician #ent #enthealth #earnosethroat #womeninmedicine #medicine #surgeon #doctor #healthcare #canada

In 2015, the UK #government set an ambition to halve rates of stillbirths, neonatal deaths, and maternal deaths in England by 2030. In May 2021 our Medical Negligence team conducted #research seeking to establish as far as possible, whether practices and procedures about Maternal Request Caesarean (MRCS) have changed in NHS UK Trusts since 2018. Our research in 2021 showed that only 6% of UK hospital trusts were offering MRCS. Now three years on, our Medical Negligence team has conducted more research to follow up on UK hospital trust figures to track progress on the ambitious target set by the government in 2015. Read our report and findings on the number of #stillbirths, neonatal deaths, and coroner referrals here: https://buff.ly/3WQlO58 #NHS #Coroner #Inquest #FreedomofInformation #birth
