At WWDC 2024, Apple announced updates for its Vision Pro headset alongside advancements in AI for iPhone and Mac. #VisionOS 2, set for release in the fall, introduces features like converting regular photos into spatial images and Train Mode for usage on planes, trains, and subways. Notable enhancements include a wider Virtual Display, improved Apple TV support with up to five simultaneous screens, and #AirPlay compatibility. VisionOS 2 also allows free-floating web videos and removes window size and position limits. Bluetooth accessory support, including mice and keyboards visible within the headset, is being expanded. Additionally, sharing the #VisionPro with guests becomes easier, and new gesture controls streamline navigation. Despite ongoing comfort and cost concerns, these updates enhance the Vision Pro's functionality, addressing user feedback and positioning it as a leading #VR headset option. The Apple Vison Pro was released in Australia last week and I was lucky enough to be invited along for a guided demo at my local Apple Store. I’ve tried a few VR headsets out over the years, but the quality of the display this tech offers was pretty mind-blowing - I found myself saying ‘wow’ out loud more times than I would like to admit - as it offered such an immersive and engaging experience. The device features two OLED displays that together pack a total of 23 million pixels, Apple's M2 chip, 12 cameras, five sensors, six microphones, and Siri, and it seemed to synch pretty seamlessly with other Apple devices, like the iPhone and Airpods. I can think of quite a few potential entertainment and education applications for technologies like this - ⚽️ watching live sport would be amazing - but the headset is still on the heavy side, and I felt a bit woozy for a few minutes after I took it off. 😵💫 And then there’s the price tag… which starts at A$6000, making it a pretty expensive purchase for most households and businesses. 💰💰💰 ❓ VR has been around for a while now, but still hasn’t found its way into most workplaces - do you think there will be a role for ‘spatial computing’ like this in offices of the future? Keen to hear your thoughts and opinions. 🙏🏻 WorkFLEX-Australia #virtualreality #vr #spatialcomputing #applevisionpro

Apple is gearing up for a significant reentry into the mixed reality market with the upcoming Vision Pro 2 headset. Despite the lukewarm reception to its predecessor, the #VisionPro, Apple is poised to make a greater impact with its next iteration. The Vision Pro 2 is anticipated to address key issues such as pricing, with rumors suggesting a significant reduction from $3,500 to a range of $1,500 to $2,500. Samsung Electronics's involvement in the development, particularly in supplying LLW DRAM and display panels, is expected to contribute to cost-cutting measures. The Vision Pro 2 might feature changes such as the potential removal of the EyeSight outward screen to reduce costs further. Anticipation is high for the Vision Pro 2's release in 2026, as Apple aims to refine its approach and lead in the mixed reality sector. 0: 200K+ Vision Pro headsets have already been sold [Business Insider] in 20 days against the forecast of 350K+ in the whole year of 2024 • Revenue of $700M+ ($3500x200K) | preorders started on 19th Jan | officially launched in the US on 2nd Feb • 5 years shipment forecast is 12.6M+ units [Statista] Has a new product launch by Apple in a decade started/fueled a VR/XR headset race? 1: “…the fundamental problem here is that headphones are a miraculous thing. You put on a pair of headphones, and you get the same experience you get with a great pair of speakers… There's no such thing as headphones for video… there's not something I can carry with me that I can put on, and it gives me the same experience I get when I'm watching my 50-inch plasma display at home. And until somebody invents that you’re gonna have these opposing constraints.” - Steve Jobs [2005] • Out of 5000 patents, some date back to 2007 - the year in which the iPhone was launched • An interesting convergence of AR-VR-MR-XR in the new product category race in 2024 Winner of the race will be with better CX & price because technology alone ain’t enough but were you able to connect 0 & 1?
