The afternoon panelists at the @North East Space Conference Space North East England highlighted the importance of motivating the younger generation in response to a question by Joanne R. The key takeaways which resonated well with me 1. let the non-availability of the best infrastructure/labs in schools and colleges not deter us. Students must be able to demonstrate creativity using readily available materials. Thanks J B Young from Lockheed Martin for this comment 2. Provide the school teachers opportunities and CPD time to access the wealth of resources created by ESA- David Parker 3. Lets not focus only on the Space based specialisations but the generic scientific and engineering building blocks which will provide the transferable skills for the Space sector - Richard Gibbs 4. Enhance ability to learn, unlearn and relearn- Lee Jackson Dr. Sharon Grant, Julia Austin, Sarah Brown, Gary Thompson- you will recognise that these are not very dissimilar to the ideas we discussed about skills enhancement for digital transformation in manufacturing at Nissan. The recent North East Space Conference showcased the pivotal role the region plays in shaping the future of the UK space industry. An insightful and captivating program, the Faculty Development Program on Challenges and Opportunities for Satellite Navigation Systems, featured the knowledge of Dr. A. Sivanantharaja. Had a great time speaking at my alma mater, the San Antonio Academy of Texas this morning! It can be a challenge explaining edge computing to anyone, let alone K-8th graders... So, here’s Armada for kids: Armada creates smart, magical boxes called 'Galleons' which act like brains for big machines in faraway places like deserts, oceans, or even space! These boxes can think, see, and make smart decisions, helping people do their jobs better and safer. From helping soldiers on a mission, to scientists exploring the ocean, and even keeping an eye on oil rigs in the middle of the sea to prevent spills and protect marine life. These smart boxes can even talk to satellites in space, thanks to something called Starlink, making sure they are connected to super fast internet, no matter where they are on Earth. It is always inspiring to listen to Jeff Hoffman.
