Recently, people have been focusing on chatbots. However, the future lies more in automation through agents. The Federal Trade Commission rolled out a new rule targeting fake online reviews, and the penalties are no joke. $50,120 per violation. Trustpilot removed over 3.3 million reviews in 2023 alone. The FTC now prohibits: -AI generated reviews -Reviews from people who don’t exist -Reviews from those with no real product experience Businesses relying on reviews must act now: -Update review collection processes -Train staff on compliant practices -Adjust outreach templates What’s compliant: “We value honest feedback. If you’d like to share your experience, leave a review on [product].” What’s not: “Leave us a 5-star review and get a $50 gift card!” If you can’t authenticate a review, don’t use it.

Authentic reviews should be genuine and unbiased, not incentivized. One of my Client shares this Pamphlet with me. Just got this pretty aggressive product insert on an Amazon order. Interesting things: 1. They are using a trackable email to associate individual customers to the card/email they contact. Part of this is to dissuade people from posting about this in the first place. 2. They are offering a $50 gift card on a $50 product - reviews are still too lucrative to scam. I keep coming across products with 90% + fake reviews. 3. There is a note on the bottom that says: "Please do not describe the gift card information/or take the gift card in the photo when commenting, otherwise, it may effect your account". Some grammar errors and a mild threat. 4. The product they were doing this for wasn't bad, but in a competitive niche that is saturated with fake reviews, ironically health-related.
