Increasing our 5G RAN marketshare by 7%-points in ~2 years is a great sign that we are doing right things, and our things right. And we are not about to slow down, just the opposite…
The top 5 RAN suppliers based on worldwide revenues are Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, ZTE, and Samsung in 2023, according to the recently published 4Q23 RAN report. https://lnkd.in/gSGzpVjs

If you look into data by Dell'Oro Group, you will see that Nokia grew #5g #RAN market share (excl. China) from 22% in Q1/22 to 29% in Q4/23, so +7%-points in two years, on rolling 4-quarters basis. This tells you something about competitiveness of our products and services. In RAN overall, dominated obviously by #5G and #4G, our analysis shows market share increase from 23% to 28% in the same period, on rolling 4-quarters basis. In other words, Nokia is #2 in 3GPP RAN in the world, outside China. In China, I estimate our #5g market share has increased from less than 1% to 3% in recent Central Purchasing (CP) rounds. Back to global picture. Our rapid market share increase in 5G, up to 29%, has forced some of our competitors to take drastic measures to change market dynamics to protect their positions. They will be surprised by our resilience.

𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐥 & 𝐉𝐢𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎-𝐑𝐀𝐍 𝐲𝐞𝐭, 𝐕𝐢 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 Open RAN, introduced as a multi-vendor concept, with the novel idea that network components can be pieced together from different manufacturers and provide alternatives to end-to-end solutions from scale providers like Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, and ZTE, did not hold up. Although Open RAN equipment accounts for only 1 percent of the total 5G equipment installed and used by customers today, it is equipment largely from Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung, not from the smaller players who claimed that Open RAN would radically change the market. The smaller vendors supposed to be the main beneficiaries of Open RAN have barely advanced. Instead, the consolidation in the equipment market reflects that mobile operators want to limit their equipment suppliers to get volume discounts. We started to believe that mmWave spectrum had no value. In the world's first and most advanced 5G market, South Korea, the three MNOs SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ all wasted their 28 GHz licenses which they each paid about 140 MEUR for in 2018. In 2022 (KT, U+) and in 2023 (SK), the ministry revoked their licenses since none of them had built the required amounts of 5G base stations in the band. Far from. The ministry started an auction 25th of January and after 50 rounds there was still two bidders. As designed, the auction was then finished with a sealed bid. StageX won with a bid of 296 MEUR. More than twice what the MNOs each paid in 2018 for the same 800 MHz. Suddenly, mmWave went from something the cat dragged in to something worth a lot of money. It will be highly interesting how StageX establishes itself as the fourth MNO in South Korea and how it will use its spectrum assets. Will we e.g. see 5G FWA being launched in South Korea?

#telecommunications #redcap #5g #samsung Samsung and MediaTek tested RedCap (5G Reduced Capability) energy-efficiency over vRAN. Longer battery life is one of 5G RedCap’s advantages. Samsung and MediaTek's tests were successful regarding 5G RedCap’s energy-saving features, which is one of its major selling points. Samsung plans to make its RedCap solution commercially available this year for both vRAN and traditional RAN. https://lnkd.in/dq9aFVtE?

5G mmWave Speed Testing 📈 According to Ookla, users on 5G mmWave achieve speeds that are 4.29 times faster than midband, 6.86 times faster than C-band, and a staggering 26.1 times faster than a lowband. Yet the technology remains present in just 9% of all announced 5G devices. Recently, T-Mobile tested their 5G mmWave on 5G SA for crowded areas like stadiums and possibly for fixed wireless service. T-Mobile aggregated eight channels of mmWave spectrum to reach download speeds over 4.3 Gbps without using low-band or mid-band spectrum to anchor the connection. #btg #telecommunications #wirelessnetwork #5G #mmWave #5Gspeed #tmobile #wireless #telecomindustry
