Seeing new advancements in militaries worldwide regarding weapon adoption is always fascinating. For the U.S. Military, one of the latest additions to the infantryman and machine gunner roles has been the XM7 MCX Spear variant and the XM250 belt-fed machine gun, both chambered in .277 Fury (6.8x51mm). These new adoptions are significant as it will be the first time the U.S. military will shift to a new cartridge from the 5.56 NATO and 7.62x51 for its larger/conventional units. The weapon systems also feature a new optic made by Vortex, which offers a laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator, atmospheric sensor suite, compass, IR lasers, and a digital display overlay. The adoption of LPVOs (low-powered variable optics) has become prevalent within the U.S. military with this addition and with the Marines switching from the ACOG to the 1-8 VCOG optic.

We provide enterprise #IT solutions to U.S. military services to create unified, joint networks that get our Warfighters the data they need. But the services have their own role to play in IT, so how do we work together? United States Marine Corps Col. Jared C. Voneida, DISA Pacific commander, explains this relationship with the analogy of Wi-Fi in his home: We act as the internet service provider, taking care of what happens outside the house, and the services act as the homeowner, managing what happens inside the house.
How DISA relates to the military services (DISA video by Austin J. Suggs)

As we enter into military appreciation month this May, it is right we take a moment to pause and recognize the sacrifice our military members and their families make for our country. It is a time for us to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who have defended them. However, at Verizon, we don’t stop with just gratitude. We understand how critical it is for us to be a trusted, innovative partner with the US Military, Department of Defense, and defense contractors, and we take that responsibility very seriously. That’s why we are committed to work with our military partners every day to address their changing and dynamic needs. We have been driving the digital transformation of military installations addressing integration, management, and security requirements where military members, their civilian counterparts, and their families eat, sleep, play, and shop. We are developing mesh architecture for network cohesion across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace. And we are enabling private networks for the military supporting a variety of use cases and integrating various military systems and other networks together for a seamless experience. We are proud to be an innovation partner with those who are dedicated to serving and protecting our country. https://lnkd.in/ed23MMKg #MilitaryAppreciationMonth #Veterans #SupportOurTroops
