🌍 5 Simple Ways to Boost Sustainability at Work and Home ☀️ - Embrace Renewable Energy: If possible, switch to solar or wind power for your home or office. Renewable energy sources not only reduce carbon footprints but also lower long-term energy costs. - Minimise Energy Waste: Unplug devices when not in use, adjust thermostats, and switch to LED lighting. Small changes can significantly cut energy consumption and save money. - Opt for Sustainable Suppliers: Choose suppliers and vendors like us that prioritise sustainable practices. A hard question we get asked a lot: Is it sustainable to organize an event in an abandoned factory? To heat it up during autumn? It is not the most environmentally sustainable option, that is clear. But we chose autumn and October as that is the best timing to actually get people attending to the event (aka to have bigger social impact), because the other times were already well saturated with other big events. And we chose the abandoned factory aka Põhjala factory, because we see that the social impact outweighs the environmental impact: the venue owner acts themselves as a social enterprise + the surrounding premises are filled with other impact enterprises that Impact Day can get attention to. That does not mean that we do not try to the best to minimize the environmental impact of choosing autumn as the timing and Põhjala factory as the venue. We have had multiple and multiple visits, discussions with technical experts to choose the best heating options that can work in the venue. And the results of that work is that we use Neste's Neste MY Renewable Diesel that is made from 100% renewable raw materials and can result in up to 75% or up to 95%* less greenhouse gas emissions over the fuel’s life cycle when compared to fossil diesel. In addition, we have partnered up with ENEFIT to use only green energy before, during and after the festival. So, this just an example how there are not always easy and one-way answers to sustainability issues. But how you address this is always the same: try to minimize the negative impact as much as possible, whilst having the most positive impact.

Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we're excited to present our third annual Impact Report, detailing our progress against the 11 goals of our sustainability strategy, How We Tread Right (HWTR). This comprehensive plan addresses climate action, food sustainability, waste reduction, diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI), enriching travel experiences, and wildlife conservation. Midway through our five-year strategy, we are proud to announce that in 2023, we achieved several milestones and even surpassed some of our 2025 targets. Notably, we exceeded our goal of sourcing 50% of our electricity from renewable sources by reaching 60% renewable energy across our hotels. The Xigera Energy Centre and solar panels at Ashford Castle generated 716,755 kwh of electricity alone. Our commitment to the journey towards net zero remains steadfast, as evidenced by our investments through the dedicated Carbon Fund. Highlights from 2023 include: 💰 Invested over $1.88 million in decarbonisation projects through our Carbon Fund 🥕 Reduced food waste by the equivalent of over 240,000 meals thanks to our partnership with Winnow 📚 No printed brochures across the collection ❤️ Expanded our MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences, across all of our hotels 📉 Reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 31% and Scope 3 emissions by 5% compared to our 2019 baseline Discover more about how Red Carnation and our family of brands is progressing towards all our sustainability goals. https://lnkd.in/dJmNRRFR #MakeTravelMatter #ClimateAction #SustainableTourism
