The historic monastery of Astino in Bergamo will soon be a new home of the CIID community in Italy, and for our incoming Interaction Design Programme students: but why did we choose Italy for this venture? And why this particular site in Bergamo? First, there’s the Astino valley itself: an exceptionally biodiverse place where the Fondazione MIA is already managing a variety of projects focused on inclusion and environmental regeneration. For CIID, it’s a natural fit with our values around regenerative design, and an ideal place for pursuing studies and projects that seek to create positive impacts for both people and planet. But there are a couple of other advantages to the Bergamo location, which we’re excited to tell you about in this video. Ready to take the next step? Click here to learn more about CIID and the upcoming cohort of the IDP starting this September in Italy, and to book a one-on-onefree information session https://bit.ly/3VWwEpS Let's craft a regenerative future together, and make a tangible, positive impact on the world. #Bergamo #Italy #CIID #InteractionDesign #Global #Perspective #DesignEducation #International #Cultures #Different #ExperientialLearning #RegenerativeDesign #IDP #InteractionDesignProgramme #listen #built #test #repeat

💥 Decidim Fest is back! 📅 23rd, 24th and 25th of October #SaveTheDate 📍 Barcelona (Canòdrom - Ateneu d'innovació digital i democràtica) 🌱 Three days to meet as a community, reflect on the challenges posed by the climate crisis and imagine desirable futures. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eJgE5xn9 Ecology, technology and democracy. Another future is possible. The climate crisis is undoubtedly the greatest civilisational challenge we face as a species. The foreseeable social and environmental effects it may have, urge us to think about how to confront the crisis in order to guarantee that the way out of it is fair and democratic. In this scenario, participation and democratic planning are two elements that, combined with the organisational potential of technology, can give us some keys to begin to draw these desirable futures that we want to inhabit. Even so, the questions that open up around the relationship between ecology, democracy and technology are many: What role can technology play in tackling the ecological crisis; what are the risks and opportunities in the use of these technologies; how can we move towards ecologically and socio-economically desirable societies in a democratic way; what kind of political institutions should we provide ourselves with to democratically manage the transition; what is the role of communities in all this; how do we imagine post-capitalist societies; and how do we imagine post-capitalist societies? We want to ground these debates in Decidim, in order to address more situated and project-related questions. For example: The design of participatory processes that respond to the challenges posed by the eco-social crisis, the use of technology to facilitate large-scale deliberation, or the example of Decidim as a public-common good that can serve to think about the institutions of the future and the relationship between the public, the commons and the market. In this edition of Decidim Fest, we will once again bring together our wonderful global community to meet, share paths, strengthen our collective project and try to answer some of these questions. We are aware that we have great challenges ahead of us, but Decidim is already a global reference for free and democratic technology in a growing ecosystem of FLOSS projects that are opening new paths of hope for a more democratic digital era.

Criar Cidade is a recently started cooperative in Lisbon that works at the intersection of urban research, community work, art and culture, locally and translocally. We ‘create city’ with its inhabitants. Centering the experiences, stories and imaginations of people we work towards a more just city. Our work is based on three pillars: ‘conhecer’ as of collectively learning about our cities ‘imaginar’ as of radically rethinking our cities, and ‘brincar’ as of taking ownership of the urban spaces through art, culture and collective action. We believe in the power of connecting multiple local experiences to understand the dynamics that shape our cities, therefore we are particularly interested in collaborations beyond Lisbon. #city #learn #research #connect #imagine #rethink #play #action #art #culture #urban #cooperative

InnoArch is celebrating a milestone collaboration! We're excited to share the seed we have planted in the past months with CODEsign for COEXistence (CODE-COEX): The framework for scaling Biocities with nature-based solutions for planetary well-being. A remarkable collaborative effort towards internationalization. Partners from five European countries—Norway, Portugal, Spain, Poland, and Finland—formed a multidisciplinary team of architects, ecologists, health experts, and city planners, united with a shared vision. Together, we established a common ground for creating resilient, sustainable "Biocities." Our goal is to promote planetary well-being by integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and New European Bauhaus (NEB) values into urban planning. These initiatives focus on restoring biodiversity, adapting to climate change, and enhancing the quality of life for all species. In a short time, we created a cohesive framework across Europe, demonstrating the power of international cooperation and innovative thinking. We will continue to push our agenda forward. CSX Community Sustainable Experiences represents the first opportunity I had to apply an academic paper totally written on my own! I'm so glad to be part of the authors who wrote about topics like communities and social innovation. In my paper, starting from design methodology and university experiences, I dived into the complex topic of community based design, an approach that decentralizes the focus from individuals (human centered design) to give answers to needs shared among multiple people with common values and goals. Source of knowledge for the paper were social studies and game theories which converge in the Community as an Onion Framework (CAAO), useful for designers and decision makers to analyze social contexts and to design new valuable ways of being a community, possibly a sustainable community. #CSX #socialinnovation #design #community #game #communitybaseddesign #sustainability PUSH. Università degli studi di Palermo thanks!
#CSX is finally out! (Link in the first comment) This publication, part of the Università degli Studi di Palermo CSX - EUROSTART research project, aims to offer a transformative vision for rural territories through the lens of citizens' experiences. It underscores the evolution from individual-centric User Experience (UX) to a broader concept of Community Experience, emphasizing a holistic, ethical approach to urban/rural development. The volume presents the main outcomes of the "Communities’ Sustainable eXperiences" (#CSX) research and the #UrbanThinkersCampus event held in the Madonie Region, Sicily, which convened over 400 participants including activists, researchers, and policymakers. Anchored by principles of the #NewEuropeanBauhaus initiative and the #NewUrbanCampaign framework, the research addressed multifaceted challenges such as sustainable communities (#People), green energy solutions (#Places), and planning policies (#Policies) through a blend of bottom-up and top-down approaches. Additionally, the book brings together 22 scientific papers developed post-symposium, each undergoing a rigorous double-blind review process. These papers reflect rich interdisciplinary discourse, offering actionable insights and strategies for sustainable, inclusive urban transformation. I need to thank Mauro Filippi and Domenico Schillaci for their support during the whole research project (please take a look to “The Madonie Misalignment: participatory budgeting insights on PNRR funded measures”). This work couldn’t be possible without the support of Università degli Studi di Palermo, Avanzi - Sostenibilità per Azioni, Farm Cultural Park, #AltralineaEdizioni and PUSH. (Emilia Pardi, Francesco Massa, Roberto Filippi, Claudia Schillaci) and particularly its great Alessandro Riva. Many thanks also to all the contributors (here just some of them): Christian Sarkar, Federico Butera, Marzia Aricò, Alexandra Coutsoucos, Erasmo Mormino, Luigi Vella, Samuele Morvillo, Francesco Monterosso, Maurizio Schifano, Dario Russo, Sergio Degiacomi Garbero, Chiara Lorenza Remondino, paolo tamborrini, Fabrizio Ferreri, santo giunta, Saverio Massaro, Annapaola Vacanti, Erica La Placa, Renzo Lecardane, Zeila Tesoriere, Bianca Andaloro, Paola La Scala, Ing. lucrezia & mimì are 2 of the speakers that brought food for thought to Regeneraction's European Living Lab in #Matera. They shared open-heartedly the learning points of some of their visionary projects: 👉 #Agrinetural 👉 #Agoragri 👉 #GiardiniVenerdì, in the frame of #ArchitectureOfShame Their experience shows that the lack of adequate support from the #PublicAdministration to #urbanregeneration projects can deprive cities from fruitful initiatives which improve their #qualityoflife. Instead, we need more corageous and open-minded staff inside institutions, who embody a long-term vision and support such #grassroots initiatives not only in terms of funding, but also with infrastructure, workforce, ad-hoc contracts and permissions. #Regeneraction #UrbaniSepare Materahub Institut de recherche et d'innovation Creative ArteriaLab / University of Évora FyG Consultores / Valencia INNO HUB
