It's always encouraging to see individuals like Alex Honnold supporting the solar revolution. The Honnold Foundation “believes in solar as a proven, environmentally sound solution to global energy poverty, and we award grants to community organizations whose projects are innovative, equity-focused, and have the potential to shift the narrative on what’s possible for energy access worldwide.” #solar #renewableenergy https://lnkd.in/gCMCu56f

🌍 The Future of Energy is Local and Equitable ☀️ Interconnection and community solar are the twin pillars of our clean energy future—but how we implement them matters. In theory, community solar projects are about sharing the benefits of renewable energy with everyone. In practice, if we aren’t intentional, the process can replicate the very inequalities we’re trying to dismantle. 🌱 Interconnection delays and costly upgrades can disproportionately harm smaller, community-based projects—especially in Black, Brown, and low-income communities. These are the very communities that stand to gain the most from cheaper energy, improved health outcomes, and resilience to climate change. So, how do we make sure everyone can access clean energy? - Streamline the interconnection process to prioritize equity. Let’s reduce barriers for underserved communities. - Lower costs for community solar developers who serve low-income areas. It's time for policy changes that support the communities that need it most. - Center marginalized voices in decision-making processes. Equity isn’t an afterthought—it’s the foundation. Clean energy is for everyone. Let’s ensure our solutions reflect that. #EquityInAction #CommunitySolar #ClimateJustice #EnergyForAll #CleanEnergyTransition

A new study illuminates the background on #CommunityOpposition to #RenewablesDevelopment in US. #Windfarms blend with cornfields and prairie grass in the lovely Iowa countryside. One farmer I spoke with on a visit this past weekend told me the farmers are all for windfarm developments because they provide much needed additional money and contribute to fighting #climatechange - and that opponents just don't have enough information. A just-issued study by Lawrence Berkeley National Lab supports the need for more in depth engagement about #renewableenergy development - finding that developers are only "halfway up Arnstein's Ladder of Citizen Participation". and that 80 percent of respondents said that "community opposition to utility-scale wind and solar projects will get in the way of achieving #decarbonization goals." https://lnkd.in/evisM2ZB

The theme of Reconciliation Week this year is ‘now more than ever’: a reminder that the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will – and must – continue. Renewable energy provides a unique opportunity to pair the essential work of the energy transition with the essential work of reconciliation, as all clean energy projects will be housed on Aboriginal land. Partnering with Traditional Owners through meaningful relationships is essential to the success of the energy transition. Earlier this year, we published a guide for developers working with First Nations communities. It outlines First Nations expectations for the clean energy sector and details key considerations for First Nations engagement at each stage of a project’s lifecycle. Check out the guide here: https://lnkd.in/gKAE6crg #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #reconciliationweek #nrw2024

Great to see more awesome EECBG awards in the Midwest announced this week! Congratulations to City of Green Bay, City of Madison, WI, and the City of Evansville-Vanderburgh County for receiving their awards. Evansville is the first City in Indiana to receive it's EECBG formula allocation! Madison, WI will hire a consultant to build a web and database system to effectively implement the city’s new Building Energy Savings Program (BESP). Created in 2023, the BESP requires commercial buildings in the city to make sustained progress on improved energy efficiency and carbon pollution reduction. The software will enable the city to benchmark and analyze energy usage across buildings covered by the BESP, helping to streamline compliance and measure program impact. The consultant will also provide help center support and trainings for building owners and managers, and compliance tracking for building energy benchmarking and tune-ups. Green Bay, WI will hire an Outreach and Engagement Specialist to lead an electrification and energy efficiency outreach campaign for residents, small businesses, and non-profits. The specialist will develop a strategy and outreach materials to implement the city’s Clean Energy Green Bay Plan and provide technical assistance to residents on best practices and available incentives for home electrification and energy efficiency upgrades. The city will also collaborate with the nearby Oneida Nation to provide tailored resources on the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Home Energy Rebates Programs for Tribal members in areas that overlap with the city's jurisdiction. The project will follow EECBG Program Blueprint 2C: Building Efficiency & Electrification Campaign. #EECBG #DOE #grants #awards #federalgrants #energy #DOE #SCEP #Wisconsin #Indiana #energyefficiency #planning #renewableenergy #Midwest
