At #Samuel, we love supporting the next generation of skilled workers whenever we can, which is why we love to partner with local educational institutions. We recently had the opportunity to welcome students and faculty from Laurel Technical Institute to our Hermitage Service Center in Pennsylvania. During the visit they learned about Samuel, toured our facility, saw some of our equipment in action and had the chance to ask our team questions about working in the industry. Many of the students commented on how nice our facility was to visit and shared that they were particularly inspired by our safety-first culture. Several expressed an interest in joining the Samuel team after graduation and we look forward to welcoming them back as full-time employees. Interested in learning more about #LifeatSamuel? Supporting local businesses that hire local students is a crucial aspect of fostering community growth and development. When local enterprises provide employment opportunities to students, they not only contribute to the economic stability of the area but also help in building a skilled and experienced workforce. Students gain valuable real-world experience, learn essential job skills, and develop a strong work ethic that will benefit them in their future careers. Moreover, these businesses often find that young employees bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a high level of enthusiasm to their roles. By creating a symbiotic relationship where both the business and the students thrive, communities can ensure a more prosperous and connected future.

I'm sharing this BBC News post about an Outdoor Education Provider in Gloucestershire called GroundEd, who provide training in land studies and horticulture to post-16 students who have special educational needs such as autism and anxiety. It's a lovely, uplifting success story, and one that offers hope and new opportunities for young people who are struggling to achieve in mainstream settings, or in that complex landscape which is post-16 provision. I am sharing also because this post raises important issues around what exactly, is the make up of post-16 provision for young people with SEND, with challenging behaviour, with mental health difficulties & more, across England's local authorities? Where are the boundaries defined between SEND specific support, Alternative Provision or Outdoor Education? I am not clear where these boundaries lie once we enter the post-16 landscape. I dearly hope Department for Education will seriously review guidance around Alternative Provision to consider all its facets, whether for the very young, or those who enter post-16 provision. Clarity is needed, which will then shape how services develop, are commissioned, and work in true partnership with local area SEND partners. https://lnkd.in/eQB7_h2t

From Struggle to Success: Lysander's Journey with #YEA Lysander, (pictured) with Becca Pickering, our youth programs facilitator, who joined #YouthEnterprisesAustralia in November 2023 and is due to complete his 6-month transition employment program in May this year. This is his story: “Every flower grows through dirt. In 2023 I was looking at facing homelessness as a long slew of months grew unsuccessful in securing a job or an interview, even with the convocation of vocational and Job seeking Services. The opportunity I got from #YEA to work alongside their partnering company gave me the financial stability to reground myself in housing and invest in a training course for my aspiring career, a body piercer and retailer. This training included the history of body modification, the maintaining of infection control and body piercing practical procedures. It was the first set of educational training I've ever completed and with ease, I had never excelled in any form of education prior. I also used this time of golden opportunity I had to further develop my resume and cover letter with the resources handed to me, filling in the gaps that hindered my search in finding any job at all. Every flower blooms in its own time. I finally got to a place after finishing my training where my resume, cover letter and stable living situation all lined up in securing me my first ever position, working at Body Pleasure Piercing! The stepping stone to my now advancing career. Indirectly, people saw my other forms of art curated at #YEA and significantly reinforced my morale to contribute to the world as a creator. Having a network of support to remind you that there's nothing inherently wrong with you or your ethic, but needing to be in the proper foundation to strive were the circumstances I necessitated. Now I plant a garden knowing there is a tomorrow to tend to it.” Join us in our mission to empower young Australians like Lysander. Together, we can create meaningful employment opportunities and support more young people to succeed in life and work. 👉 www.yea.org.au #MakingADifference #EmpowerYouth #CreatingOpportunities #EmpowermentThroughEmployment #BuildingFutures #YouthDevelopment #YouthEnterprisesAustralia #SocialEnterprise

A very busy #SocialMobilityDay yesterday, with the initial introduction of the RISE social mobility network at Halewood. More generally though, taking this opportunity to share a couple of musings I’ve had over the last few months re the concept of Social Mobility: - Terminology: we must be ready to make the language around SM more accessible. This is why stories and experiences at every level are such a useful tool. - Formal education v life skills: Social mobility isn’t just about access to university/HE (although this is significant for many). There is a whole population for which improved literacy, numeracy, financial wellbeing skills and access to health education could elevate their socio economic outcomes. Nationally, there is so much to do in this space; momentum is building and I’m glad that at JLR we are a part of that. #SocialMobility #ShareMoments Chantelle Powers Shozzol Miah
