It's easy to overlook a piece of art when surrounded by many other artworks, especially when it's this small! 🧐 This red-figure squat oil flask (lekythos) decorated with a swan is one of those pieces. It's these types of pieces where you have to ask yourself, "Why is it so small? Did they really only put oil in this thing? And what's the significance of the swan?" Ask these questions! Engage with the art and start the conversation, maybe you'll get new insight. 😉🦢 Attica, Greece; Classical period, ca. 450-400 BCE Ceramic vessel Tampa Museum of Art, Joseph Veach Noble Collection, 1986.082

8 April, 2023 to 14 July, 2024 |The Met — “Anxiety and Hope in Japanese Art” The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Galleries 223-232, New York, USA This exhibition explores the themes of anxiety and hope, with a focus on the human stories in and around art and art making. It begins with sacred images from early Japan about death, dying, and the afterlife or that were created in response to other uncertainties, such as war and natural disaster. It then proceeds chronologically, highlighting medieval Buddhist images of paradises and hells, Zen responses to life and death, depictions of war and pilgrimage, and the role of protective and hopeful images in everyday life. Finally, underlying themes are explored via modern woodblock prints, garments, and photographs. https://lnkd.in/diupfyrx #atconnectingart #art #artwork #finearts #artbroker #annatseliou #museum #exhibition

“SUBLIME STONE 2024” By the artistic director of the event Bettino FRANCINI, president of the international association A.I.E.S.M. A new edition of Pietra Sublime returns to Cavriglia. It is a project that connects art with places and their use; that art which in all its forms is capable of regenerating, of dialogue, of conflict, of questioning our being in the world. What could a life be without art? How could we love life without loving ART? These are questions that I often ask myself together with the other artists who will work for this new Cavrigliese edition.
