We have a new beer coming, and it is one we never anticipated making.   About a year ago, our friends at the Sheraton Hotel challenged us to make a beer using honey from their culinary garden on the rooftop of the Sheraton downtown. The sales team and I got very excited. The brewers, not so much.   Honey in a beer… Isn't someone else in DFW doing that already? And it's their flagship beer, right? Yes, which is why we knew we couldn't also use citrus. That made the challenge even harder because the flavors pair perfectly together!   After a year of playing with variations and sometimes avoiding the project altogether, we created a beautiful honey lager that our brewers love just as much as the sales team. You can taste the honey, but it's not over the top or too sweet. And no fake adjuncts. It's truth to materials with the honey exactly as it should be.   Now, it needs a name! We've been brainstorming, and we need help. Do you love any of these names or have ideas?   Buzz Brigade Bee-52 (I can't believe how much I love this one) Buzz Bomber Sweet Victory (might be a trademark violation) Honeycore Golden Cargo   It will be on tap on Tuesday. It's not ready for distribution yet. We need a name first so then we can label it!

As we are all about to take off for the long weekend, consider celebrating all things local. Here are some ideas: 1. Go to a local farmers market to get your food. Local produce and meats are so much better than what you get at the store 2. Go to a local winery to grab the best bottle(s) of VQA wine to pair with the food you just purchased. Did you know that the food we grow locally tends to pair well with the local wine that is grown and made near by? www.winecountryontario.ca #100milediet 3. Seek out local arts and culture. In Niagara we have so many options, like the Shaw Festival 4. Go to a local restaurant or coffee shop. These small businesses are using the local ingredients mentioned above and carrying local wines and craft beers etc. One of my fav's is the Garrison House in Niagara on the Lake.... but trust me there are thousands of options. 5. Look for a local festival or event. This weekend is Canal days in Port Colborne. Rotary Rib Fest in St. Catharines is also a lot of fun if you need your fill of smoked meat. Live music is usually at all of these events. 6. Most of all Support Local. We are a world class region/country with so many local offerings. Lastly, do all of this responsibly. Did you know the Catalina Wine Mixer wasn’t a real event until the movie Step Brothers made it one... 6 years later? The *iconic* gala takes place during the last scene of the movie when the brothers head to the "greatest wine tasting event" on Catalina Island. The fictional event appeared so real, people would google the event to see if it was actually a thing. It got so much traction that 6 YEARS after the movie came out, Catalina Island *actually* decided to create the mixer IRL. To say it was a success is an understatement. It’s 2024, and the mixer STILL sells out every year. As a brand marketer, one thing is clear: Branded entertainment is a powerful medium to create movements. Instead of trying to insert yourself into the story, you have the power to write it yourself. You may only need one idea to change everything. …here’s an idea from a beer festival. 👇 I was an invited guest to a special beer festival. I’ve never been into a brewery before, so it was really nice that it was held in the Joseph Holt brewery itself in Manchester. The beer festival was part of Joseph Holt’s 175th anniversary celebrations. To make it easy for everyone they converted one of the brewery rooms into one long bar. As you can see from the picture it was jam packed full of different beers. There was a lot of choice. It was easy to see what the choices were. They made sure everyone could clearly see what was on offer. And that’s the idea. It’s so easy for us to assume that our existing customers know what we do. The thing is - they probably don’t.
