San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation’s Post

💡 How would it feel if all your employees truly loved their job at your company? What if your entire team was dedicated to your company’s mission, vision, culture, and values? These questions were the foundation of an impactful discussion that a small group of EDC board members and investors had with retired WD-40 Company CEO Garry Ridge last month. "As the summer months wind down," EDC's President and CEO Mark Cafferty writes, "Garry’s words serve as a great reminder to make sure we are always putting the needs of our teams first, and that we are continuously challenging ourselves to live the missions, visions, and values we so often speak of—because 'happy people create happy communities' right here in San Diego." My biggest take away -- Garry Ridge framed the job as a supervisor is to coach not manage, not to grade their work, but to help them earn the A. Much better approach to getting the best from our teams.

What a great presentation and discussion! The importance of Value Hierarchy resonates with me.
