Opera, Orchestra, and Ballet Conductor // Doctor in Music // General Director Performing Arts Laboratory // Scholar&Expert in Performing Arts Sustainability: Artistic, Financial, Social, and Ecological Dimensions
Embracing diversity is way much more that checking a box in your season… It requires serious work from many angles. For instance, Music Theory and its relation with Production entities (Orchestras, Opera and Ballet Companies, Music Record Labels, etc) is one of the areas we have to work on to be sure we are able to see the cultures for what they worth under their own values!! Let me know what you think… Abstract: Music Theory as an artistic/science has been allowing the understanding of music and its development in multiple areas. The role of Music Theory is fundamental for the development of the Music field (art and industry). However, Music Theory developments have been influencing the development of only certain kinds of styles. Its historically limited frameworks focused on pitch and structure analysis (in European concepts and values) has been influenced the field to appreciate pieces only when they have complexities or developments in those areas. That puts multiple very valuable pieces, traditions, and styles under “no valuable categories” creating a very undiversified field. With a more in depth analysis of Ardila-Pineda’s Un Mar de Fueguitos that include analysis outside standard pitch and structure centered frameworks, the present paper shows how a deep Music Theory analysis with more varied frameworks could create a more holistic understanding of a piece. An understanding that is translated into real broadcasting of the values of a piece. A way of thinking, theorizing, and performing music that could create and encourage more diversity in the music field, by becoming more aware of much more complexities than only pitch and structures.

The future is clear: classical music will live – or die – on social media. Or so writes Sophie Carlin in The Telegraph. A growing number of musicians, composers and academics [are] using TikTok to present classical music anew. Young people are there on social media. And they’re listening. A fifth of under-18s want to see more classical music on social media. 18-34-year-olds are six times more likely to follow classical organizations and artists on social media than over-55s. In 2021, a twentieth of 18-34-year-olds watched online videos of orchestral performances; in 2023, it’s an eighth. And for a sense of scale, in February 2024, nearly 20% of the world’s population was on TikTok – just over 1.5 billion monthly active users. Founder of The Academy Australia and Creator of Kpop Boot Camp Australia. Member of the International Dance Council CID
Meicheng S. Congratulations on your new article publication! If you are studying Kpop, check out this article available on academic journal. This chapter explores the role of social media in globally projecting the presence of a once geo-culturally peripheral genre of contemporary Korean popular music (K-pop). Boosting digital streaming metrics, publishing user-generated content (UGC) and mobilizing support for broader socio-political causes through multiple social media platforms, fan communities are now part of this visible global cyberpublic. The social media activities of K-pop fandom K-pop fandom here would be described as the digital corps de ballet (a supporting group of dancers synchronizing with the movements of principal/solo dancers). De-centring the Western global popular music industry, enlivening prosumer aesthetics and mobilizing fan networks, such dynamics are the outcomes of more rhythmic triangulations of ‘consumers, commons and collectives’ connecting otherwise contradictory binaries of capital and the public in the K-pop digital ecosystem.

Interesting perspective in this blog by David Taylor. I agree with the points. "....The previous narrative also suggests that you need to be educated in an art form to enjoy an art form. Most people have no education about the world of cinema, and yet millions across the world enjoy films. Art galleries are full of people who are coming to paintings and sculptures with no training or knowledge. You don’t need to know what the different positions are to enjoy ballet. Even in sports, you don’t need to know the rules, let alone the complex strategies, to enjoy a game......It is counterproductive, elitist, and dangerous for us to keep shouting about how we need music education to save classical music audiences as it reinforces the idea that you need to be educated in it to enjoy it, and if you are not then classical music is not for you."
