Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to social responsibility, we have made significant strides in addressing our community's most pressing needs. This report not only celebrates our achievements but also inspires us to redouble our efforts as we work towards building a stronger, more resilient San Diego for all. Highlights From Impact Report: - $1.2M in grants awarded to 20 non-profit partners - Expanded education access to 3,000 students  - Provided over 180,000 meals to individuals and families - Facilitated connections for over 3,000 under-resourced youth with professional opportunities in the life science industry - Provided for 100 individuals to receive rental and housing support. https://lnkd.in/gBme2_5G

United For ALICE, in collaboration with Independent Sector, released today the first-ever ALICE in the Nonprofit Workforce report, offering critical insights on #nonprofit workers who can't make ends meet. This new report shines a light on the 22% of nonprofit workers who devote themselves to helping people build a brighter future, but who are themselves struggling financially. https://lnkd.in/g8PWZZ99

As a society, we rely heavily on the nonprofit sector to address critical social issues. It's time we ensure that those doing this vital work can thrive, not merely survive while sacrificing their own financial stability. These findings underscore the need for systemic changes in how we value and compensate mission-driven work. By highlighting these disparities, this report takes an important step towards recognizing and addressing this pressing challenge.

ALICE in the Nonprofit Workforce gives us a new set of eyes, and a new set of tools, for understanding the most vulnerable in our #nonprofitworkforce. But understanding is not enough. 🌟 Big News for the Nonprofit Community! 🌟 We’re thrilled to share that after years of advocacy, led by the National Council of Nonprofits and supported by many nonprofit allies, we've achieved some major wins at the federal level! 🚀 Starting October 1, 2024, an overhaul of federal grantmaking rules will take effect, making it easier for nonprofits to access government grants and secure higher reimbursement rates for their true costs. Here are some of the key changes: ✅ Lower Barriers & Higher Reimbursement: Charitable nonprofits will now have fewer hurdles in applying for grants and can receive increased indirect cost reimbursements—up to 15% for the de minimis indirect cost rate! ✅ Advancing Equity: Federal programs will now prioritize community engagement, consider diversity, simplify funding notices, and eliminate the requirement for English-only communications. The more I’ve studied rural systems, place-based discrimination that has resulted in decades of disinvestment, inequities between urban and rural communities, the interdependence of urban and rural areas often leading to extractive practices at the detriment of rural places, and finally, gender and minority inequities in rural places … I would love for equity and inclusion efforts to include small towns issues. 🚨 Today, Independent Sector and United For ALICE will release a first-ever report on financial hardship among nonprofit workers: ALICE in the Nonprofit Workforce. The data reveals that in 2022: ➡️ 22% of nonprofit workers faced financial hardship ➡️ Nearly one-third of workers in social assistance and arts nonprofits struggled financially ➡️ Systemic inequalities left Black and Hispanic nonprofit workers twice as likely to face financial hardship as White workers This is a critical issue, as nonprofit employees play vital roles in civil society. The ripple effects of broken trust are hitting nonprofits hard In our generation, trust is becoming a rare commodity. It’s not just about nonprofits and donors—it’s deeper. We see a broad trust deficit that extends beyond the nonprofit sector, affecting our faith in governance systems, political leaders, and even our communities. Think about it: how often do we trust political leaders or governance systems to act in our best interest? This skepticism shapes our views in other areas, including nonprofit work. This has been especially evident among Gen-Zs, not just in Kenya, but across many nations. Their skepticism reflects a deep-rooted disillusionment with traditional structures of authority and power When trust erodes, it impacts all relationships. Nonprofits struggle to build genuine connections with communities and donors. People carry their distrust into these interactions, questioning intentions, scrutinizing promises, and doubting the real impact of their contributions. For donors, this translates into higher expectations and skepticism. They demand more proof of impact, transparency, and assurance that funds are used effectively. This cautious approach slows decision-making and affects support levels. Communities, too, may hesitate to fully engage, fearing more broken promises and unmet commitments. I’ve been exploring how data shows up in other fields to compare it with corporate social impact data. ⏭ My observations contribute to Debunking or questioning some best practices 🤔 And Reinforcing others. 🏅 Reading about Mackenzie Scott’s latest round of giving isn’t far outside of corporate social impact. The story is told using big numbers. The big numbers are supplemented by examples of specific grantees giving the specifics of their work. That sounds pretty familiar. 😊 CNN / Business Insider / AP articles $ given ($640 million) # organizations applied (6,000) # organizations in top tier scores(279), $2M each # of organizations next tier (82), $1M each $ B, Scott’s fortune (36.2) $ given last year or last round $ budget to eligible ($1M and $5M) Similar to the incredible spike in some organizations' budgets in 2016, I'm curious how we will look back on Yield Giving's effects five years from now. 🔮 In the majority, the nonprofit sector responds to the issues created by our faulty and harmful systems. Responsive action doesn't create systemic change but it does make things better for people's lives.
