Juneteenth commemorates the true end of slavery in the U.S. Today, we cherish the liberation achieved, the progress of so many civil rights activists, and the thriving Black communities and culture in our country. We also recognize that freedom is an ongoing pursuit. The work of racial justice remains crucial—especially now, when so much progress is in political or social jeopardy. Alongside our partners, we stand more committed to racial justice than ever. Applying an intersectional lens, we are proud to invest in and learn from the transformational leaders, networks, and solutions working toward justice: racial, social, economic, and environmental. We are in this with you for the long term, listening and collaborating to create lasting change. Together, it’s possible. #juneteenth #racialjustice #socialjustice #socialimpact #communitydrivenchange #springpointpartners

Juneteenth is Freedom Day, a celebration of strength and recognition of our ongoing fight for equality. —- Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, declaring that all enslaved people in the United States were freed, it was not implemented in places still under Confederate control. It wasn't until June 19th of 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and made an executive decree, that all enslaved black people in the state would be legally free. June 19th has been celebrated for generations as 'Freedom Day,' although it went largely unrecognized by most until recently. More and more US states have declared Juneteenth an official holiday, including Colorado in 2022. While black Americans continued to face systemic racism and discrimination even after their legal freedom, June 19th is an important reminder of the strength and courage of black communities throughout history. Did you know Juneteenth began on June 19, 1865 when Major General Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. It is said by many to be our country's second independence day. So why is this important to us all? Opal Lee, the grandmother of Juneteenth said: "Freedom, freedom, freedom for everybody! I don't want people to think that celebrating freedom via Juneteenth is just about a Black holiday or just a Texas holiday. It's about knowing that we all have a stake in making this the best country in the world." Pictured are Juneteenth celebrations across the nation since its inception 159 years ago.
