Diageo Exploring The Sale Of Some Non-Core Brands Diageo is reported to be working on plans to sell a trio of its non-core brands, including the popular summer drink Pimm’s. According to Sky News, the company has hired bankers at Rothschild to explore whether to sell Pimm’s, which it acquired in 1997 as part of the tie-up between Grand Metropolitan and Guinness which led to the formation of Diageo. The report quotes insiders as saying the process is at an early stage, and may not lead to the British company offloading the Pimm’s brand. The company does not break down sales data by individual brands, but industry sources said that Pimm’s was likely to draw interest from other drinks companies as well as financial investors. Alongside Pimm’s, Diageo is said to be exploring the sale of Safari, a fruit liqueur, and Pampero, a rum brand. The Sky News report noted that it was unclear whether the company would countenance selling the brands separately or whether it was only interested in offers for all three. The potential disposal of the non-core brands from its portfolio of 200 products comes at a challenging time for Diageo and its relatively new Chief Executive, Debra Crew. Its share price has tumbled after a torrid few months in the wake of a profit warning in November which was blamed on weak sales of Scotch whiskey in Latin America and the Caribbean. Those markets collectively account for roughly a quarter of Diageo’s global whisky sales, with that category in turn representing about 25% of the group’s overall revenues. Last month, the company said a “perfect storm” of overstocking and slowing demand had combined to depress profits. Crew, who only took over in June last year following the death of predecessor Sir Ivan Menezes, has pledged to get the business performing again, declaring herself “restless” to improve its fortunes. As part of our #S2at22 celebrations, we highlight some of the fantastic campaigns we have worked on over the last 22 years. Who: Diageo – the global leader in premium alcoholic drinks. With over 200 brands, and sales in more than 180 countries, Diageo’s portfolio has unrivalled breadth across spirits and beer. What: Diageo wanted to adopt a more informed approach to its go-to-market strategy and execution for its innovative ‘technology led’ draught cocktails. The ultimate goal was to get its brands into the hands of the right people, via the right outlets, in the right locations. Outcomes: By developing and overlaying brand personas onto our MarketView platform and creating heat maps based on different variables allows Diageo to align retail and wholesale distribution with market potential and shopper demand. Taking this approach forms the basis of a robust go-to-market strategy. Case Study: https://loom.ly/kqgMvMw #WorkAnniversary #DataMarketing #DataInsights #S2at22 #ThankYou

Following on from the SWA announcement of reduced value and volume of Scotch whisky exports over the last 6 months it made sense to snip this excerpt from a recent article we compiled which analysed the Diageo full year results. For the full article see here: https://lnkd.in/eqpa-3Tf Differences between interim position and full year? 'The second half of 2022 was hot for Diageo and most other spirit businesses. We have since detected a marked slowdown across the entire market and this set of full year’s results allows comparison between the first 6 months and the second half of the year. Our analysis shows a significant volume slowdown in almost all categories. The categories that performed badly in the first half of the year have been the ones to show some improvement which may be a reaction to the first half of the year (more price promotion / marketing and remedial activity to support struggling areas?). The following chart shows this graphically by major spirit category. The coloured arrows show the relative movement between the two periods in % terms.'

Category management (for the consumer) is the key.
Well done to Waitrose & Diageo for this partnership. Great to see increased visibility of the No & Low section in store. For the category to grow the ‘zero’ section needs to be side by side with beer, wine and spirits, not in with the softs. It also needs a bit of championing to normalise it with everyday shoppers who haven’t adopted ot as part of their regular drinking habits yet. This does all of that, and without the bullshit sober / abstentance messages - just straight forward marketing through increase shelf visibility. Great work - let’s hope there is more to follow!

Diageo just announced they are launching in Sept 2023 in the UK/Europe a Non Alc Captain Morgan spiced gold 0.0 "rum" Initially launching in the UK in September, followed by Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia later this year before further roll out across Europe in 2024, Captain Morgan Spiced Gold 0.0% Alcohol Free Spirit will have a shelf price of £15($~19.00 USD) in the UK. In the UK, the product will be available via Waitrose, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco with more stores to come. Probably won't make it to the US for some time though. Exciting and foreboding news at the same time, and not unexpected as Diageo of all the major alc companies seems heavily vested into coming out with more NA drinks. Its a no brainer to pick from their current alc portfolio and look to make a NA version which they did with Gordon's, Tanqueray, and now Capt Morgan for spirits and Guinness for beer. When is Johnnie Walker, Casamigos, & Don Julia NA coming out? Its good a major player like Diageo is all in "NA" as they have the resources to grow the overall NA sector with education for trade and consumer, BUT bad for small to medium sized brands as it will be very difficult to compete as they have economies of scale for sourcing/manufacturing, built in distribution, major brand awareness, large marketing budgets, and can compete on price. #nonalcoholic #AFspirits #nonalcoholicspirits #AFBiz #mocktails #sobercurious #spiritsbusiness #spiritsindustry https://lnkd.in/edi6KEsJ

Diageo Crashes on Profit Warning The shares of world’s largest spirits company Diageo fell over 14% in the Friday morning trade in London, making it the biggest faller in the FTSE 100. The crash came after the company warned of a decline in its organic operating profit growth for H1of its current financial year due to "materially weaker" performance in Latin America and the Caribbean. The region accounts for around 11% of the company’s sales, and they are now expected to fall 20%. Meanwhile, sales in Europe continue to grow, albeit at a slower pace than in H2 of the previous financial year. The maker of brands like Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Baileys and Guinness said it expects a “gradual improvement” in sales and operating profit in H2 of the current financial year and intends to continue to invest in its brands to maintain and grow market share. Founder : HAPPYDOWN - Global Award Winning British Craft Cocktails | Consulting & Advisory | Import & Distribution
Two of the leading AlcoBev companies in India i.e Pernod and Diageo are at loggerheads (for 3 years) over a Brand Name/Trademark dispute. It's bizarre. Common words, as far as I know, can't be appropriated. In this case, the word is Pride. I've seen same word being used in at least 4 prominent Whiskies in India (if not more). Three of them sell Millions of cases every year. All launched in different years (in the following order). Royal Challenge. Royal Stag. Royal Green. Royal Ranthambore. Is there a genuine case, what do you opine?
