Apart from the election results, there is something even more important to talk about... Today is #worldenvironmentday, the theme for this year is Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience. Did you know, 🟩 That almost 60 percent of all species live in soil, making land the planet’s most biodiverse habitat. 🟥 Every five seconds, the equivalent of one football pitch of soil is eroded, yet it takes 1,000 years to generate just 3 centimeters of topsoil. Why am I sharing you this? Because it’s crucial to recognize the impact our small actions can have. Simple steps like switching off the lights when not in use and choosing reusable products can make a significant difference. We have #onlyoneearth. If we don’t take steps to protect our nature, who will? We are the #generationrestoration. Remember, every small action counts. Together, we can make a big impact. #gogreen #sustainability #fornature #life

This year’s #WorldEnvironmentDay focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the theme “Our land. Our future. We are Generation Restoration.” 🌍 While we can't turn back time, we can grow forests, revive water sources, and restore soils. Wetlands are key to preserving biodiversity, replenishing groundwater, and mitigating the effects of desertification. They are vital for human survival and are among the world’s most productive environments. #WetlandsWednesday #WetlandsMatter

Today is #WorldWetlandsDay and I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of wetlands. Did you know that wetlands are critical to our health and safety? They slow the flood and protect us from natural disasters. Moreover, wetlands provide habitats to the biodiversity, natural beauty, purify water, and control erosion. Let's appreciate the beauty of wetlands and remember to protect them for future generations. #climatecrisis #climatechange #organo #waterbodies #biopond #sustainability #rurban #commune

Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay! This year, the theme of this UN observance is Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience; which just so happens to be some of our favorite things to talk about at Oakencroft. To restore our land, we're working with @centerforurbanhabitats on converting a two-acre section of the farm back into a native Pine Savannah. This endeavor re-colonizes the area with native grasses, shrubs, and trees to support the hyper-local flora and fauna of our area within the Piedmont. In closely managing a prescribed burn, we were able to begin this long-term restoration project that will serve as a natural home to many of the species found on our farm. Afforestation is a problem because it aims to create a forest where none existed before. If an area doesn't naturally support trees, planting them won't bring water—it could actually worsen water stress. What we truly need is ecosystem-specific restoration." – Abi Tamim Vanak, Director - CPD, ATREE Let's focus on restoring ecosystems based on their natural needs, not imposing solutions that can harm more than help. 💶🌳Did you know? For every €1 invested in nature restoration, the return can be between €8 and €38! 🙏 As Europe deals with increasing droughts, floods, wildfires, and the decline of pollinators, soil erosion, and water eutrophication, it’s clear: nature is our greatest ally. Investing in nature is not just an environmental imperative; it’s an economic one too. #ecosystemrestoration #biodiversity

Its National Forest Week! Let's look at Reforestation vs Afforestation. While both terms relate to planting trees, reforestation is the process of bringing trees to an existing forest that has a decreasing number of trees from damage or destruction. Our Cooling Streams crew is working hard at our site in Mildmay, ON - classified as a reforestation site, as we reintroduce trees to an area that was previously a head pond. Afforestation is bringing trees to an area where they have not been previously present, creating a new forest. Both are beneficial in capturing carbon, providing habitat, and cooling the atmosphere. #NationalForestWeek #Reforestation #Afforestation #TreePlanting

As we mourn the loss of those affected by the recent floods, it's essential to reflect on the importance of tree planting in mitigating such disasters. Trees play a crucial role in stabilizing soil, preventing erosion, and absorbing excess water, thus reducing the risk of flooding. Additionally, they enhance air quality, provide habitat for wildlife, and contribute to overall environmental health. By coming together to plant trees in memory of those we've lost, we not only honor their legacy but also take a meaningful step towards building a more resilient and sustainable future for generations to come. #sustainableagriculture #Climatechange #Asustainablefutureforall #letsallgetplantinh

The future of our land is at stake. Desertification, land degradation, and drought are among the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, with up to 40% of all land area worldwide already considered degraded. Land restoration can reverse the creeping tide of land degradation, drought and desertification. Restoration helps: ✅ Conserve biodiversity ✅ Boost livelihoods ✅ Build resilience to extreme weather ✅ Improve soil fertility ✅ Increase water retention Let us join hands to protect land, our most precious resource. #UNited4Land #DesertificationAndDroughtDay Learn more: https://lnkd.in/em5U2-nC
