Dr. Dan Witmer, one of our leading hip replacement specialists, recently presented impactful research (alongside Rob Magaldi and Sara Strecker) at the Northeast Arthroplasty Conference, winning 1st place for their poster presentation! Their study focused on the effects of GLP-1 agonists medications on patients undergoing total hip replacement. The key takeaway? These medications can increase the risk of PONV after surgery. Based on this research, our new protocols at BJI and our surgery center recommend stopping these medications one week before surgery to minimize PONV in patients. This research is ongoing and the groups will be re-studied later this year to learn the outcome. #arthroplasty #research #patientcare #OAHCT #MakeYourMove
