#opentowork #rejections How about this. Don't tell applicants why they fail unless they ask for feedback, which is usually the time that people don't get back to us with any. Even automated rejection messages annoy me, telling me that the company went with someone "better aligned" when they didn't even talk to me or interview me. I have no idea who is rejecting me or what system is sending the message. In fact, I know absolutely nothing about the position because you didn't interview me and disclose anything. All I have is boilerplate. This week I got these following automated rejection emails from a no-reply email address when HR closed the position: Snap Inc: We are pursuing candidates with skills and experience which more closely match the position of "Job Posting Title". (Yes, it literally says I didn't align with "Job Posting Title") this is also implying that your company, who never engaged in conversation with me, expects cookie cutter applicants. I'm sure I didn't apply to a job outside my abilities to perform, so why tell me that's why I wasn't selected -- or any reason, to be honest. I don't think I really care one iota since you don't want to do business with me anyway. And this one: We regret to inform you that after reviewing your application, we've made the decision to move forward with other candidates at this time and will not be moving forward with your candidacy. This is a really long way of saying "Others moved forward, you didn't" or, in actuality, "one person was selected and it wasn't you" -- again, this doesn't have to be said with this circus speak. Simply say it simply! What these emails are actually saying is something along the lines of "position filled before desperate enough to contact you" .. in the end just tell me something like this: Dear Applicant: We have filled the role of [role name here] you applied for, and unfortunately we have decided not to move forward with your application. We appreciate the time you took to learn about our company and apply to our job opening. Please keep us in mind during your future job searches as we have new roles. This is called being considerate of other people's feelings. I know it's been a while, let's bring that back.
