Wetlands protect against climate change| Let's protect and restore wetlands! 📌Wetlands capture carbon from the atmosphere and store more carbon than any other ecosystem on Earth. 📌Wetlands safeguard us against storms and floods. 📌An acre of wetland can store up to 1.5 million gallons of floodwater. #ActForWetlands #WetlandsandPeople #WWD2024

The #Pacific is threatened by the rising sea levels, severe storms, and changing weather patterns that are driving displacement, coastline erosion, and the destruction of natural protective barriers. So how do you build essential public infrastructure like electricity grids, roads, bridges, ports, internet cables, and airports, knowing they'll face recurring natural disasters like cyclones and floods, exacerbated by climate change? https://lnkd.in/g44YmHxQ

The #JasperWildfire is not a once-in a-life-time event. Record-breaking wildfires are becoming the norm every summer, across the country. All orders of government must focus on adapting to the realities of climate change and preparing for the next inevitable wildfire. It's time to safe-guard our communities by mandating and investing in wildfire protection for buildings and infrastructure. We have everything to lose. This is a great step. Improving #CoastalResilience is a key measure in combating climate change. 🔑 There’s no safe and liveable world without resilient coastlines and healthy oceans, which is why we’ve joined the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA)! 🤝 Our Geo-data expertise will help ORRAA’s partners invest in coastal communities to mitigate climate change impacts and improve ocean resilience 🌊💪 We’ll also be supporting their Coastal Risk Index, which provides comprehensive flood maps and identifies areas where natural habitats like reefs and mangroves are vital for climate-vulnerable communities 🌴🐠 📸: Alex Mustard/Ocean Image Bank #Fugro #SafeAndLiveableWorld #Marine

This week, we at UNITED WATERWAYS were privileged to take part in an important seminar hosted by the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR). The focus was on a critical topic: "Inland Ports Navigating Climate Change." As extreme weather events increasingly disrupt operations, the need for immediate action has never been more apparent. Our main takeaway: Immediate planning is essential. With the anticipated increase in frequency and severity of extreme weather, adapting now is crucial for future resilience. #UnitedWaterways #WeServeAllWaters
Today EFIP has the pleasure to be hosted by the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) in a seminar on Inland Ports Navigating Climate Change. As extreem weather events continue to disrupt operation inland ports must prepare. First take away is that we cannot wait to start planning. The extremes will only increase and we must adapt before.
