This... Slip, trip, and fall hazards are a leading cause of injury in nearly every industry you can think of. Still hunting for that sweet spot....? When it comes to firestopping service penetrations, the size and space of everything matters. Everything about the penetration and service has to align with how the firestop product manufacturer tested their product. Any slight deviation can result in finding alternative product solutions. In this instance, a suitable sized hole has been cored to allow the transfer of this copper pipe. A simple intumescent mastic direct seal around the copper pipe could have been a suitable and cost effective solution to re-instate the fire rating of the wall. Unfortunately, the pipe has been installed too close to the wall edge to achieve the required width of seal. The difference 10mm can make!! Remedial solutions are available, but these will incurr additional labour and material costs. Here's a super-easy trick to find out if your concrete and other hard surfaces need an application of Saltguard, Saltguard WB or Saltguard VOC. Pour a small container or glass of water over the surface. If the water beads up or puddles on the surface, the concrete has already been treated and is still protected.
