Interesting to note that the big four are PwC, KPMG, Deloitte and EY and these are really large in terms of global coverage, annual revenue and number of employees. But Accenture, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), McKinsey & Company and Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, IQVIA, Clarivate, Bain & Company, Kearney, Frost & Sullivan are growing very fast are not far behind. #strategy #growth #mergersandacquisitions

Those of us working with, or in, consulting have probably taken note of Alvarez & Marsal's growth over the past few years. I sure have, so I took some time to map out the Managing Director hires since 2022 (didn't want to include 2021 because everyone was hiring then). A&M continues to hire at this level even in 2024. 296 TOTAL MANAGING DIRECTORS HIRED SINCE JANUARY 2022 (excluding those added through acquisitions) Surprisingly, 11 hires from BCG EY 39 KPMG 33 PWC 21 Deloitte 19 Several hires from McKinsey and Kearney as well. A clear focus on Australia and China. It was interesting for me to map this. Given the slowdown in consulting, this is surprising, but refreshing, to see.

The Big 4 are not just about audits anymore! Over the last few years, the management consulting arms of the Big Four—Deloitte, EY, PwC, and KPMG—have been quietly gaining momentum, growing at an impressive rate of 25-30%. These firms are now moving up the value chain, integrating digital and strategy services, and competing head-on with traditional strategy giants like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain. 💼Why This Matters: Clients today are increasingly seeking long-term, outcome-focused engagements, with many projects directly linked to measurable benefits. The Big 4 are uniquely positioned to meet these expectations, solidifying their status as formidable players in the consulting space. This emerging trend could significantly reshape the consulting landscape in the coming years. Keep an eye on it! 🌍 Unpacking the Global Consulting Landscape 🌍 The consulting industry is a fascinating ecosystem, driven by innovation, expertise, and strategic impact. What stands out most to me is how a relatively small group of firms—just the top 20—wields tremendous influence. These firms, representing giants like Accenture, Deloitte, and PwC, dominate nearly 50% of the global consulting market, showcasing their stronghold on strategy, operations, and digital transformation consulting. Interestingly, these firms manage to generate twice as much revenue per consultant compared to smaller firms, a clear testament to their efficiency and scale. Yet, despite their dominance, these top companies only employ one-third of the entire consulting workforce—leaving room for innovation and disruption by smaller players and boutique consultancies. As someone who is eager to break into the world of consulting, these figures inspire me to learn from the best while staying open to the diverse opportunities available in the broader consulting landscape. I look forward to contributing to this dynamic industry that thrives on problem-solving and transformation! #Consulting #Strategy #BusinessInsights #ConsultingCareers #GlobalConsulting #FutureConsultant

Comparing my experiences with 𝐁𝐂𝐆 and 𝐏𝐰𝐂 consulting simulations. Having recently completed PwC's program as well, here's how BCG 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 about their in-depth approach:- ⚖️ 1. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 BCG - Open-ended tasks requiring analysis of vast information PwC - Focused tasks with clear-cut data points for analysis 2. 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 BCG - Develop strategies considering client and departmental perspectives of potential issues during implementation PwC- N/A NOTE❗: The 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 for PwC's simulation was less compared to BCG's, which likely explains the difference in depth. Would definitely recommend 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 programs for anyone interested in exploring consulting! #Consulting #jobsimulation #BCG #PwC #Forage

The Economist -in a Glass House? This week's Economist has an article taking a dig at management consultants. Under the heading ‘The lost art of self-management ‘the broad thrust of their argument is based on an anonymous memo rebuking McKinsey for its pursuit in recent years of “unchecked and unmanaged growth “and chastising its leadership for, of all things, a “lack of strategic focus”. The Great Eight, as the Economist has titled Deloitte, Accenture, KPMG, pwc, EY, Bain, BCG and McKinsey have grown their revenues from $75bn in 2013 to $175bn in 2023. (See chart below) Perhaps there is a degree of envy in the Economist’s observations. They after all have only managed to grow from £343 million to just £377 million over the same period, a gain of 9.9%, well below 1% a year. The Great Eight, on the other hand, has grown by over 130%, rather more every year, than The Economist has managed over the whole decade. One criticism however could be levelled at the authors of the anonymous memo. McKinsey has not really grown enough to keep pace with its more adventurous competitors.
